As Epic announced on its website, Fortnite’s PvE mode Save the World will no longer be free-to-play this year.
“We have decided not to switch to the free-to-play format this year,” it says. “In our opinion, this requires adding a few more features, revising aspects and adapting our infrastructure.”
You need more time to upgrade your systems for the “legions of player-controlled heroes” that can be expected in the course of this. So you want to get it right.
Previous and new founders receive a thank you for playing the Fortnite: Nightmares event. If you do that, you will get the heroes Brainiac Jonesy and Skull Ranger Ramirez for free.
In addition, the standard, deluxe and super deluxe versions of the founder’s package are being offered 50 percent cheaper this week.
In the future, Epic also wants to integrate menus and the user interface between missions more into the game and make them easier to understand. A first step was to give players access to the inventory between missions.
“We’re rearranging some of the menu items to make them easier to find, and we’re adding a new system to the tutorial to include this,” says Epic. “We’re also fine-tuning the menus and giving them more character (s). Ultimately, with this redesign, we want to ensure that a greater part of the Fortnite experience takes place in the game itself and not in the menus between missions In the next few weeks we will go into detail on the upcoming changes before we implement them in a few months. “
Furthermore, Epic announced a new and improved hero system. The additional options in the hero composition should make the system more flexible and creative. Instead of three, you have six slots for heroes.
“Choose the main hero that you control in the mission and up to five others who give you advantages and bonuses,” the developers explain. “We want to make the possible combinations more diverse and give you a tool for new, meaningful decisions. As soon as we have worked out the whole thing in detail, you will receive more detailed information in a comprehensive blog post.”
A reimbursement function for materials used is also planned. This should be used when Epic makes changes to sketches, heroes, survivors, defenders and other items that you have upgraded.
Epic then marks the balanced item and you decide if you want to downgrade its level and upgrades. “In this first version, we will only mark the heroes that have been adapted as part of the new system,” it says. “For special cases we are still considering how we can return other materials.”
