As part of the Director’s Cut, you’ll be able to play a new expansion to Jin’s story, set on the island of Iki, with new locations to discover, characters to meet, quests to complete, and more.

Jin’s journey begins when he discovers that a mysterious Mongol tribe has occupied part of the island of Iki. They are led by a shaman named Ankhsar Khatun, known as “the Eagle” by her followers. As both a khatun and a shaman, she is not only a conqueror, but also a shepherd of souls. And the danger she poses to Jin and her people is unlike anything they’ve ever faced.

The only way to face this threat is for Jin to return to Iki’s island. He’s been there once, and now, facing a new and powerful enemy, he’ll be forced to face his old fears, and unearth traumas. As you explore the island and fight the new threat, you’ll also delve into the past of the Sakai clan…

Our semi-fictional version of the island of Iki is in stark contrast to Tsushima. It is a wild and lawless land, full of criminals and robbers, scarred by the memories of war, and fierce and independent in spirit. The samurai haven’t controlled the island for a long time. Although he is skilled, Jin cannot face the Mongols alone. She’ll have to work with, or around, a group of dubious characters to take the fight to the Eagle. The cost of defeat is too great. If the Eagle and his tribe subdue Iki and gain the support of his people, Tsushima and the rest of Japan will be in great danger.

The stories you find in Tsushima are full of action and adventure. The same goes for the island of Iki! In the fight to save Iki, Jin will encounter pirates and bandits, insane monks and haunted caves. You’ll meet new legends, and learn new techniques. Jin will have to use all his skills to defeat his enemy.

We will also continue to tell intimate, emotional and personal stories. Stories about real people trying to forget the hatred of the past and survive in wartime. Stories about what it’s like to be caught between trying to preserve your beliefs and defending your home. What it means to be Lord Sakai… and what it means to be Ghost.

With everything that’s happened in the past year, it’s no wonder we wanted to tell a story of recovery… And we felt this would be an interesting challenge for Jin. We all suffer, from the lowliest farmer to the most powerful lord. We suffer from the wounds of the past that we carry with us. And we cannot fight wounds, or run from them. Ghost and Samurai weapons don’t help. A wound can only be healed.
