Google Stadia expects operators to increase mobile data packages.
Revealed last month, Google’s game streaming service, Google Stadia, must consume a minimum of 10 Mbps for download and 1 Mbps for upload to have games with 720p resolution at 60 frames per second and stereo sound. But to enjoy the full experience with 4K, video with dynamic range and 5.1 Surround, at least 35 Mbps is required. And that is what worries future subscribers the most.
Mountain View Giant knows, said Vice President Phil Harrison, who spoke to Gamespot about the issue. For him, operators will have an important role in the content transmission market in the coming years because, after all, it is a sector that depends a lot on network improvements and on the increases in the data package offered.

“Operators have a strong track record of being ahead of the consumer trend and if you look at the history of data limits in these small market numbers – and it’s actually a relatively small number of markets with data limits – the trend over time, especially in the first days when streaming and downloading music became popular and were not necessarily legitimate, data limits increased. Then, with the evolution of TV and film broadcasting, franchises increased even more and we hope it will continue to do so. ”
Hope is that 5G also helps Google Stadia
Part of this concern of those interested in paying for the service concerns the possibility of Google Stadia working on mobile connections. Harrison also bets on a good response from the operators’ infrastructure to deliver a good experience on cell phones, mainly due to the arrival of 5G.

“There is a very interesting dynamic happening in the Internet market, which is the evolution of 5G, especially in the so-called fixed wireless, which is not necessarily running 5G on your cell phone, but brings 5G to your home. All fixed and wireless 5G assets I know have no data limit and have very high performance, introducing a competitive dynamic at $ 50 (R $ 192) per month. That’s what Verizon charges for a minimum of 300 Mbps up to 1 Gbps. It’s a good value for me.”

In addition, even in 4G, the “choking” of resolution on smaller smartphone screens does not get as much trouble as on a TV – the important thing is that there is no delay in the gameplay. Harrison is aware of the fluctuation that connections can bring and says that Google Stadia will not always need 35 Mbps for 4K games at 60 frames per second.
“I saw the mathematical calculations that people did. If you take 35 Mpbs, it’s not always 35 Mbps because we use compression. Sometimes there will be less dice than that, so it’s not right to multiply 35 Mpbs by the number of seconds you play. ”
