Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How to use Amiibo

Remember when Animal Crossing’s amiibo were unpopular and considered a bit of a failure? Nope! Not anymore. Now they are part of what is sure to be one of the biggest games of the year. And they offer great rewards to those who picked up the figurines and plastic cards. But while they’re there, the game doesn’t ask you to use them like previous amiibo-supported titles. So to explain, here’s how to use the amiibo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to use amiibo

The first way to use these old Animal Crossing amiibo is to talk to Harv. Who is Harv? He is a random villager who will show up from time to time and reside with Resident Services. Whoever shows up here is usually an important part of the game, which is also true for this guy as he is one of the best ways to use your amiibo figures and cards.

Speak with him and he will tell you about Harv Island, accessible at any time from Dodo Airlines. Just head over to the island and you’ll discover Photopia, where Harv will take photos of you with one of your amiibo characters. At least it’s kind of them. They’re not really there, but you get a cool picture out of them. You’ll see what I mean when you try it, and all photos can be purchased as posters in the Nooks.

The next way to use amiibo involves camping, a throwback feature from previous games. This unlocks as soon as you upgrade Resident Services and is a great place to meet new villagers. And by using amiibo, you can bring specific ones to the campsite to invite them to live in your town. It’s also a great way to get more villagers.
