Throughout the lore of Assassin’s Creed, the Order of Elders, later known as the Templars, are an obscure organization of puppet masters – pulling strings to advance their own mysterious agenda.
Finding your ever-growing list of targets plays an important role in the history of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and some hide better than others.
At the start of Eivor’s adventure, they meet a pair of Hidden Ones, Basim and Hytham, in Norway, and agree to take up arms against the Order of the Ancients in an effort to free England from their influence.
Once the Raven clan reaches England, Hytham sticks around to set up a headquarters in town – feeding Eivor’s information and leading them to new targets.
All over England and beyond there are 30 full Order of the Elders targets to find Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, plus 15 The fanatics who serve as executors for each branch (four Zealots for each branch except the Warkeepers, who only have three).
Many of these targets reveal themselves during the game’s main story, but to uncover them all, Eivor scours the medieval countryside and defeats the Zealots in search of clues.
First, we’re going to go over some tips on how to defeat the dreaded Order of the Ancients fanatics, before going to the locations of some of the early full members you can find:
How to defeat the Order of the Ancients fanatics in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
The relentless zealots of the Order of the Ancients are some of the toughest enemies you’ll face in all of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Not only do they spout unblockable runic attacks and are often heavily armored, but they can’t really be stealth attacked, ambushed, or shot with arrows.
And what’s worse, if you can’t manage to spare Leofrith, or if you don’t burn Burgred’s Order quickly enough at the culmination of the Ledecesterswire arc, you’ll be actively being hunted down by these super enemies.
Plus, to make things even more difficult, when you first encounter them, Eivor is massively sub-level to take on the challenge. The lowest power level for any Zealot is 90, a 70 above the 20 power level of the Waxedecestral and Grantebridgesxed areas where they spawn.
However, there is a quick way to beat them very easily. As shown in the embedded clip below:
Since you can redefine your skills anytime for free in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you can drop down to the bottom of the Raven row (the left side of the skill tree) and acquire Inversion de missile pretty much since you arrived in England.
Now grab a Zealot’s attention, lock in, then back away from them until you reach a medium distance.
From there, the Zealot will attempt to throw spears, mines or other projectiles at you.
But since you have the missile reversal, combat now becomes a matter of pressing L1 just as the spear is about to hit you. Eivor will then launch the projectile at the Zealot and deal a fair amount of damage.
Continue to back up away from them, return their ranged attacks, and they should descend in about 10 to 15 hits. Some Zealots may heal themselves, in which case it will take longer.
As we said, this also works if you go up to a high place, or if the Zealot throws a different projectile – like a mine or gas bombs – at you.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Order of the Ancients locations
The Order of the Ancients spread its tendrils throughout medieval England. To root them out, you’ll have to search all over the country, finding clues in hidden places and in the belongings of the members you’re tracking down.
There are four branches of the Order of Elders as it appears in the menu, with six members per branch. Generally speaking, you’ll discover these branches starting with the right-most branch and then move left in the menu, so we’ve chosen to feature the right-to-left branches in this guide.
Taking down a target gives you clues to find the others and possibly the branch leader, known as their Maegester. The Warkeepers Maegester is revealed throughout the story; for the remaining three branches, once you have defeated all six members, you will discover the Maegester of that branch. There is also a fifth Maegester who is not affiliated with any branch, whose identity you will discover as you progress through the story.
Defeat the five Maegesters of the Order of the Ancients and you will find the Grand Maegester behind it all.
To avoid spoilers at this early stage in the game’s lifecycle, after covering Kjotve the Cruel from the game’s prologue, we refer to each Order member by their codename in this guide, rather than the real one. Character name.
