How to activate parental controls on your Nintendo Switch console

When you set up your console for the first time, you can enable parental controls from the setup screen.

You can also activate it at any time from the Switch console system settings.

  • Launch the console settings from the home screen of your Nintendo Switch.
  • Scroll down and select Parental Controls.
  • Select Parental control settings on the right side of the screen.

How to manually configure Switch parental controls settings

After following the instructions above, you will receive a message informing you that you will not be able to set a limit on playing time, waking up, or controlling gaming activities without using the app. Select following.

  • Select the restriction level: Teenager, Pre-adolescent or Child, to use a predefined frame
  • For more control, select Custom settings
  • Select Restrict software to choose the classification restrictions of the software
  • You can choose from games rated for ages 3 and up, up to games rated for ages 18 and up

Since firmware version 5.0, Nintendo has changed the way you enter your PIN code.

Previously you used a numeric keypad on the screen to enter the numbers. Now you use the joystick on your controller to select the numbers.

It’s a much more secret way to enter your PIN, so prying eyes can’t copy you. But it’s also a lot harder to navigate if you’re not comfortable with a controller.

If you want to go back to classic keyboard input, all it takes is the press of a button.

When you are asked to enter your PIN code for parental controls, press the key. Plus (+) of the right joystick and hold it down.

When you sign in to your Nintendo Account for the first time in the online store, you can activate the option to not having to log in with your password to make purchases.
