The main objective ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizons is to transform your desert island into a real little village that will attract new visitors. And with the Remod’île, several customization possibilities are available to you.
Today, I have prepared a short guide for you to build roads and sidewalks that will add a touch of realism to your village. It takes time, patience, and just a little bit of effort. And the result is pretty good!
Remod’island
Before you can make your routes, you have to unlock the Remod’île option by completing the main storyline of the game. I don’t want to spoil this part, so come back as soon as you are there!
You will need to purchase the Remod’île options with your Nook Miles. It will be possible to add water currents, waterfalls and cliffs. But you will also be able to build paths with the 9 basic patterns offered in the game.
The 9 basic patterns look great, but to build a beautiful road with sidewalks you have to think about every angle.
Custom designs
To build your streets, you have to use the pattern customization tool. Yes, yes, the same tool that we use to make clothes or flags!
Open this option on your Nook phone and choose an empty box. For this tutorial, you need 20 boxes. I warned you, it takes a long time to prepare!
Every angle matters
You can also download patterns from the web. It’s a good option, but personally, I preferred to build the whole thing myself.
For the street
You will have to draw every possible angle. You can make a box completely gray and voila, but I believe having white lines adds a layer of realism. at
I opted for one-way roads, but you can also make lines to delimit the different directions of traffic.

If you decide to use details like white lines, make sure each box is perfectly aligned at design level.
I also made a pedestrian crossing, a horizontal and a vertical.
For the sidewalk
For the sidewalk, I used the same angles as the streets but with small design details. It is according to your tastes!

The sidewalk will follow the corners of the street. Prepare your space accordingly
Once all your designs are ready, you simply have to select the pattern by pressing “+”. You will need to change the pattern depending on the angle of your road, so be patient!

HOW TO CREATE CUSTOM TRAILS IN NEW HORIZONS?
For it, you must first unlock the Remod’île application via your Nook Phone, then go to the Residents Office at the Nook Stop machine. From there, go to “Redeem Nook Miles”, then select “Personal road permit“, This permit is priced at 2 300 Miles Nook. Once purchased, your phone will update, and forward for custom routes!
The possibilities in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are endless! You can customize your little island as you see fit, and the novelty of this new opus is the Remod’île application which lets you create cliffs, enlarge streams, and create paths!
HOW AND WHERE TO FIND PERSONALIZED PATTERNS?
There are several ways to get custom designs. You can first create them yourself, but you can also download them directly with the game via QR Codes. To do this, download these QR Codes directly through the application, or otherwise go to the back of the Fairy Finger Sisters shop.
Then, if the chosen model requires a QR Code, you will need to download the Nintendo Switch Online app on your mobile, available on iOS and Android, then after downloading it, take a picture of the QR Code you want. Once done, you will need to open in-game via your Nook Phone the Custom Pattern application so that the code synchronizes in-game. To get it, press the “+” key on your Switch, and your console will find it.
HOW TO PLACE THESE PERSONALIZED PATTERNS TO CREATE PATHS?
In order to create personalized paths on your island with your personalized patterns, start the Remod’île application via your Nook Phone, then press the Plus key to open the menu and select the paths. Then select “Custom pattern“, Then choose the one you want. Finally, to create your path with it, press the A key and go ahead creating!
Be careful, these are different from the paths you bought before, such as the wooden paved road, the brick road or the country path. Indeed, if they are removed by having the application Remod’island on the way with the spatula in hand and pressing A, custom designs react differently and can only be erased with the foot by pressing Y, while having the Remod’île application closed. Also, you cannot round off your angles like with the other paths.
Not to be overlooked either, if you can shape your own paths thanks to the personalized patterns, you can also superimpose it on the other paths that you will have purchased via the various permits available at Nook Stop.

Once you know how to import designs, you’ve done most of the way, no pun intended. All you have to do is create routes yourself or import them into the game. But here it is, Nintendo has failed to provide intuitive tools for drawing in the fastest and easiest way. But here are the two main known methods.
- Nook Phone, patterns, select the desired design, apply it to the floor, move around and repeat the manipulation. The most common and the most annoying method. Repeat this action dozens and dozens of times. What a plague. But if the result is satisfactory, we will easily forget these difficult moments spent with the pad of the Nintendo Switch.
- The Remod’île. Once the quests with Tom Nook are completed and the famous credits have passed (no spoiler you will notice), Tom Nook will come back with you with the Remod’île app. This allows you to draw the island as you like. Modifying the waterways, the cliffs, anything is possible. Best of all, the app allows you to draw roads and paths faster. You choose the pattern and you apply it to the ground successively, which greatly saves you time. Granted, it’s far from perfect, but it’s much better than the basic method.
