For over a year now, I have owned a nintendo switch. It’s a console that I love, but I still had one big problem that I couldn’t resolve, the compatibility with a Bluetooth headset.
I even dreamed of being able to connect my airpods to it because they are my everyday headphones and for me, the most innovative headphones on the market at the moment.
After months of research, I finally found a solution to use the switch with airpods without any problem.
L’AIRFLY DE TWELVE SOUTH
The airfly is a small, very simple object that does one thing but does it well.
It allows you to connect your airpods (or any other Bluetooth headsets) to your switch or to any equipment that has a jack.
What’s in the box?
In the box, you will find:
The box that allows the connection of your headphones to your device
A jack / jack cable to connect the box to your device
A USB / microUSB cable to recharge the box
A storage pouch
This small box allows you to simply connect your airpods via Bluetooth to a whole bunch of equipment with a jack plug. In my case here, it’s the nintendo switch, but you can also connect your headphones to all other consoles, aircraft multimedia systems, etc …….
The connection system with the airpods is very simple. There is a small button on the headphone charging box, there is also this button on the airfly box, you press both and the connection is active.
As much to say to you that to play the switch with the airpods is much better in terms of experience than any other wired headphones that I had been able to use before.
Of the many tests that I was able to do, I did not notice any latency during use. Something that could quickly be crippling for video games.
I also did not need to recharge the case after two weeks of use either, so the case has a fairly good battery life.
The only small downside I can find with it is that you always have this little object hanging behind your switch while you play. But hey it’s not very intrusive either, and I’m sure that with a little imagination, some might find a way to fix it (with self-adhesive scratch strips for example).
As I said above the airfly is a simple object that does only one thing but does it very well
How to connect your AirPods to your Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite
Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite are console games on the go – without any consideration for modern audio features. Headphone socket? Check. Bluetooth connectivity? Not really. While Nintendo seems to think we’re all happy to live like it’s 2015, there is a way to use your AirPods with your Switch or Switch Lite for wireless and convenient entertainment.
If you delve into your Switch’s settings, you won’t find a way to pair Bluetooth devices with the Mario machine. It’s a bit of a surprise since Nintendo released the Switch in 2017, six months after Apple unveiled the first iPhone without a headphone jack. If you take Nintendo’s word, you’ll need to carry your phone, AirPods, Switch, and a pair of wired headphones if you want the full portable pack.
So how can you connect your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max to your Switch? With a bluetooth adapter. And it’s even more surprising considering the Switch does have Bluetooth 4.1. Nintendo has so far resisted its activation for wireless headphones, likely due to wireless interference with Joy-Con controllers. The company could have easily added a Bluetooth dongle as an additional accessory to make up for it, but that would only highlight its poor Joy-Con design.
Fortunately, there are third-party options to fix this massive audio problem that Nintendo left behind. With a Bluetooth transmitter, you can stream audio from your Switch to your AirPods, no problem. These adapters work by tricking the switch into thinking the transmitter is a wired audio source. The adapter then takes digital audio from the USB-C port and streams it to your AirPods.
Try HomeSpot’s Bluetooth transmitter
While a quick Google search proves that there are many of the available Bluetooth transmitters out there, we recommend checking out the HomeSpot version. HomeSpot makes a Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter specifically for the Nintendo Switch, so it looks as good as it works. In addition, it is available in a wide variety of colors:
The HomeSpot transmitter plugs directly into the USB-C port located under your Switch. Once connected, you can use the included USB-C to USB-A adapter to connect the transmitter to the USB-A port on your docking station.
Pair your AirPods with the HomeSpot Adapter
No matter if you are connected or not, just press and hold P1 or P2 button on the transmitter for three seconds to enter pairing mode. You will know it is in pairing mode when the lights flash. Once the transmitter searches for devices, it’s time to put your AirPods into pairing mode.
AirPods and AirPods Pro
Wait a few seconds for the HomeSpot adapter to pick up the pairing signal from your AirPods and the two devices should connect automatically. Once that’s done, you’re free to enjoy the wireless audio experience you’ve come to expect in 2021.
While the main focus of the HomeSpot transmitter is the ability to connect AirPods and other wireless headphones to your Switch, this dongle comes with other useful features that you will find useful.
For starters, you can have two pairs of headphones connected to the transmitter at a time, hence the two buttons. This way, you and a friend can both pair your AirPods with a Switch and enjoy immersive gaming wherever you are. Your AirPods will also feel right at home, as you can also connect two pairs of AirPods to various Apple devices to share audio.
There’s also a built-in mic for in-game chat. If your headphones have their own built-in mic, which all AirPods do, they won’t work with HomeSpot’s transmitter by default. You will need to put the adapter in “HFP” beta mode to use it.
There is also support for aptX technology, which reduces the time it takes for game sound to reach your headphones. Unfortunately, AirPods don’t support aptX, so if you’re using Apple’s wireless headphones with your Switch, you won’t get these benefits.
Are you going to go pro?
If you are interested in other features like voice chat in apps like Discord, Nintendo Online, WhatsApp, and FaceTime; streaming music apps like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music; and an audio equalizer, you can choose the HomeSpot Pro Bluetooth Adapter. You’ll get all of the standard HomeSpot transmitter features, plus those features in this paragraph, for an additional $ 20.

Nintendo Switch: how to connect wireless headphones?
Despite the presence of a 3.5mm mini-jack, Nintendo Switch does not automatically connect to headphones. Rest assured, since two alternative solutions exist to be able to play your favorite games, quietly and wirelessly. Here’s how to connect a Bluetooth headset (wireless) to your Nintendo Switch.
The Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch Light have many advantages, but also some flaws. In the lot, their lack of compatibility with wireless headphones Bluetooth. A frustrating problem, since despite the fact that they are equipped with a 3.5mm mini-jack, not everyone wants to play with a cable lying around. Especially since some headsets or headphones are not wired at all. However, be aware that there are two solutions to work around this problem. It is not perfect, but it remains alternative solutions that have been proven. Here they are.
Use a wireless USB headset compatible with your Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch is compatible with most wireless USB headsets. If Nintendo doesn’t indicate which ones, we’ve put together an unofficial list for you. To use it, simply connect the USB adapter supplied with your headset, either to a USB port located at the back of the Dock of your Nintendo Switch, or on the USB-C port of the console itself, depending on. Here are all the compatible headsets.
- Sony PlayStation Gold Sans fil (2018)
- Sony PlayStation Platinum
- SteelSeries Siberia 840
- The tighter SteelSeries
- SteelSeries Wireless Arctis 1 (specifically designed for the Nintendo Switch)
- Turtle Beach Elite 800
- Turtle Beach Stealth 450, 600 et 700
- Logitech G933
- Logitech G533
- Plantronics RIG 800HD
- Plantronics RIG 800HS
- Plantronics RIG 800LX
This list is obviously not limited. If your headset is not in this list and yet works with your Nintendo Switch, feel free to mention the reference of your helmet in the comments in order to help others.
Use a USB adapter compatible with your headset and Nintendo Switch
Why give fully wireless headphones ? The only possibility to connect this type of audio headset with your Nintendo Switch is to go through a dedicated adapter. You can get a good bluetooth transmitter on Amazon, or at Cdiscount, but also at other resellers. Just search for “Nintendo Switch bluetooth adapter”, for example, and pick the one that suits you the most. On the other hand, a few models seem to stand out in terms of quality. We recommend two models particularly appreciated by the community:
- GENKI (Bluetooth audio adapter for Nintendo Switch) on Amazon
- 8BITDO (Bluetooth audio adapter for Nintendo Switch) on Cdiscount
These dongles can turn into any audio jack on a bluetooth compatible system. Once you’ve got one, simply plug it into the 3.5 mini jack on the top of Nintendo Switch, then pair it with your Bluetooth headphones.
We hope that these two alternatives will suit your use. However, if the purchase of an adapter (or a helmet with an adapter included) does not suit you, know that all is not lost. Remember that the arrival of a Nintendo Switch Pro in the near future could completely erase this concern, and provide support, by default, for wireless headphones.
