Sea of Thieves will offer private servers
Since its launch in March 2018, the evolution undergone Sea of Thieves is truly remarkable. Heavily criticized in its early days for its lack of content, the title was supported body and soul by Rare to become a must in the catalog of Xbox Game Studios. In support of a rich and intelligent gameplay, the pirate game is now well supplied with quests and various activities. Between the megalodons, the fortified places, the skeleton or cursed galleons, not to mention the terrifying Kraken, the enemies are numerous. But the worst threat to the seas remains of course: the opposing player.
Unfortunately, and despite the existence of a PvP provided, the Sea of Thieves experience cannot be exclusively PvE. Even if you decide to lead the adventure on your own, the risk of being confronted with other players is always present, with all the inconveniences that this can cause. In order to be able to make the most of this space that is Sea of Thieves, the gaming community has long been asking for the possibility of having private servers. It would seem that this request was heard because it is through an article that Joe Neat announces the upcoming arrival of these servers:
As Sea of Thieves has evolved, we have supported these initiatives by allowing players to come together on the same servers. But we had wanted to go further for a long time. After spending a lot of time refining the concept, we will be releasing an alpha version of private servers very soon. They will be made available to specific creators and communities to organize events.
Joe Neat, executive producer of Sea of Thieves
Although this new possibility will go through a long testing phase, we already know the main features:
- The possibility of creating a private server for Adventure mode.
- The choice of the type of boats and their number before the start of the game.
- Access to private servers will be via a code.
- Sessions on private servers will not earn reputation or gold.
With its successful launch on Steam and its latest extension Haunted Shores, the title of Rare continues to evolve at a steady pace. If private servers are emerging quickly, this is still news creative possibilities that will open for Sea of Thieves. We remind you that the title is available in the Game Pass and that it should receive improvements for the Xbox Series X.
SEA OF THIEVES: CUSTOM SERVERS ARE COMING SOON
A new feature will enrich the world of Sea of Thieves, with personalized servers being eagerly awaited by players.
In a short time, Rare to launch alpha version of custom servers for Sea of Thieves, which will initially be intended for content creators and community groups, who will be able to test this new functionality. The latter has been requested for many months by the community, which would like to take advantage of servers with rules that can be personalized, or invite several groups of people.
This will soon be feasible if the alpha turns out to be successful. The developers believe, however, that it will last long enough. Rare also explains the most important characteristics of these private servers such as:
- The possibility of choosing the number and type of ships.
- Create and distribute an invite code to allow other players to join the server.
However, as you might expect, Gold and reputation progression will not be available through these servers, Rare indicating that the latter were more in place to speak the creativity of the players. These servers are not set up to be PvE servers.
Finally, the developers specify on the official site that a wider deployment could be done if the alpha is successful, but thatit is not impossible that access to these private servers is chargeable, via the Emporium store for example. Rare is studying all the possibilities and will come back to the community later.
Sea of Thieves is available on PC and Xbox One as a reminder. If you want to acquire it while saving money, we remind you that our partner Instant Gaming offers it to you for the sum of 29.98 euros.
Are Sea of Thieves servers down? Here is how to check
Every now and then Sea of Thieves doesn’t seem to work. Every time you log in, no matter what, you just cannot access a server. Even rarer (but more frustrating), you’ll be kicked off a server when you have a lot of loot in tow. be able to reconnect quickly. But what if you can’t?
Are Sea of Thieves servers down?
There are many websites to choose from when trying to check the server status of your favorite games. Sea of Thieves is a very popular game, so Rare Games (the developer) wants to make sure players know if something is wrong. The options below explain how to check on their website or (in the absolute worst case) another.
Option one: the rare games website
Rare is the development company for Sea of Thieves, and they usually have the most recent status for all servers on Sea of Thieves. This is the most up to date option to check Sea of Thieves server status as they have the information as it appears.
To check the status of their website, you can follow this link: Sea of Thieves Status Page.
Once you’re there, you’ll see the status of the servers, foreground and center, on the page. The image above shows you the most likely scenarios when you visit the page. It will usually indicate that the servers are down immediately or shortly after noticing a problem. This should be the first page you visit if things have gone wrong.
Another benefit of this page when checking server health is that further down the page you will see if there are scheduled downtime for maintenance. This will often give you sufficient warning, so you know when to return your pirate loot.
SEA OF THIEVES: 1 MILLION PLAYERS BUT SOME SERVER PROBLEMS
The Rare development studio unveils a video today * in which Craig Duncan (studio director) and Joe Neate (game producer) explain to us that the game is a success but that the servers are struggling to cope with the influx of players. Indeed, since the game was released 48 hours ago, no less than a million players have tried to connect to the servers, which has of course caused many problems. Attendance is indeed almost four times higher than during the beta, which had not been anticipated it seems. Note that this million players does not reflect sales since the game is available through Xbox Game Pass which allows you to enjoy a catalog of games against a monthly subscription.
The result of this massive influx is of course the multiplication of connection problems and other bugs which have led the studio to plan several maintenances. Today * i, the servers will therefore be offline until 1 p.m. (since 10 a.m. this morning), and the operation will be repeated on Saturday March 24 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) and Tuesday March 27 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.). As you can see, you’ll have to take your pain patiently before you can think of yourself as Blackbeard.
