Blizzard has announced that Diablo IV will launch for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2023, with cross-platform progression available on all versions.
Along with the reveal of when the game will be available, the fifth and final playable class, Necromancer, was also shown, which will join the Barbarian, Mage, Renegade and Druid.
“We can’t wait to open the gates of Hell next year; The talented team behind Diablo IV put gameplay first in everything they do, and they’ve built Sanctuary’s biggest and most ambitious vision yet,” said Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “This sprawling world draws deeply from the dark universe of the franchise’s 25-year history and is built around the philosophy of player choice, offering an adventure unlike anything Diablo players have experienced before.”

Inside Sanctuary: A world that has long suffered from devastating wars between Celestial Heaven and Burning Hell. Decades have passed since the events of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, but the world is still plagued by a sinister, corrupting force. Now Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred, has been reborn in the mortal world and is bent on dominating Sanctuary once more.
As well as the iconic Barbarian, Mage, Forsaken and Druid classes, the legendary Necromancer joins the battle to save humanity and returns as the fifth playable class and with new undead mechanics. Players will be able to wield the Necromancer’s Book of the Dead, an all-new ability that allows them to dominate the battlefield with deeper customization than ever before for their undead army. Fight with the giant Skeleton Warriors, the agile Combatants, the sword and shield Defenders, or the scythe-wielding Reapers. Cast an array of spells with Skeleton Mages, imbuing them with shadow, ice, and sacrifice magic. Deploy heavy Bone Golems, life-stealing Blood Golems, and imposing Iron Golems. Or sacrifice them all to absorb their powers.
Diablo IV’s version of Sanctuary is huge, and every inch is filled with opportunity and adventure. In-game character customization is richer and more extensive than ever, and players will be able to use curiosity (and perhaps foolishness) as their guide as they explore over 140 dungeons and dozens of side quests in their quest for victory over Lilith’s forces. … and even more powerful equipment. Powerful World Bosses present an added challenge throughout Sanctuary, encouraging players to collaborate with other players encountered along the way to defeat them and obtain their treasures. And, for the first time, players will permanently change the world around them by taking over and turning corrupted Strongholds into friendly outposts.
There is no one correct path to take in Diablo IV: players choose how to progress in any non-linear way they wish. This open-world experience extends into the final phase of the game, where players will be able to put their skills to the test in Nightmare Dungeons, enjoy hellish combat in dedicated PvP zones, build Boards of Excellence to keep advancing and customize their characters beyond level up and interact with the Tree of Sorrows to unlock even more world objectives and bounties and obtain legendary equipment.
