[HOT] : Bigger and more powerful, the 2022 BMW 2 Series makes its debut
BMW presented yesterday its 2 Series edition 2022. In addition to the absence of the famous oversized grille found on the 4 Series, the major announcement concerns the increased power and larger format of the 2 Series.
Although its grille is full-size, the new 2 Series stands out with its sharper headlights, large fenders and longer nose. The 230i and M240i variants are both 8.9 cm and 10.9 cm longer respectively, 6.6 cm wider than the previous 2 Series, and their wheelbase is increased by 5.1 cm. Year after year, BMW vehicles continue to get longer and bigger.
As mentioned, the offer includes the 230i and M240i variants. Base models feature a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine that develops 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, a gain of 7 horsepower and 37 lb-ft of torque. As for the M240i models, they come equipped with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbo engine that puts out 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 47 horsepower from last year. However, his couple remains virtually identical.
Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations are available. Since in both cases it is an 8-speed automatic transmission, the manual transmission is no longer an option. The weight distribution is close to the 50-50 ratio, with the front end receiving just over half the mass.
The first two versions offered upon release will be the rear-wheel drive 230i and the all-wheel-drive M240i xDrive. The 230i with all-wheel drive and the M240i xDrive with rear-wheel drive will follow. No pricing has been announced yet, but they are expected to be unveiled this fall as the model’s expected November launch approaches.
