Even though the article was not published on April Fool’s Day, and while it certainly looks like legitimate news, the article has a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor. “Supporters of the deal say having a company as well structured as Amazon with the world’s largest religion will make it a much more streamlined experience, which is Hail Mary on demand.” and Same Day Rosary delivered right to your door without a visit to a leaky, broken down old church.

The HuffPost editor-in-chief Lydia Polgreen announced the end of the HuffPost Contributor platform in 2018, citing misinformation as one of the reasons for the change.

For example, Bezos’ adoptive father appears to have grown up in the Roman Catholic Church. Her adoptive father emigrated from Cuba to the United States in 1962 as part of a Catholic priest’s Operation Peter Pan program.

Then there’s Bezos’ marriage to MacKenzie Scott, who is now his ex-wife. Bezos and Scott were married in 1993 in Palm Beach Island, Florida, by someone identified as Reverend Richard Riccardi, according to a marriage certificate obtained by Insider. As Trotter discovered, one Richard Sebastian Riccardi is now the Presiding Bishop of the Old Catholic Church of New Utrecht, based in West Palm Beach, Florida.

These clues suggest that Bezos could be Catholic – or adjacent to Catholic, perhaps – but they are not definitive proof. “The lack of a clear answer does not diminish its importance,” Trotter concluded. “What Jeff and Mac Kenzie believe, and how it affects their business decisions, is relevant to their clients, employees, shareholders and clients.
