How Mad Mikkelsen could improve Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.
Now that Mads Mikkelsen has been confirmed to be Johnny Depp’s replacement as Grindelwald, we reflect on how he can improve Grindelwald’s character in Fantastic Beasts 3.
Although it seemed like it was going to be a rather more complicated task, in just two weeks after the announcement of Johnny Depp’s departure from the Fantastic Beasts saga, Warner had already found to the actor who will replace him as Gellert Grindelwald in the third film in the franchise.

We will not say that the chosen one was one of our bets for the role or that it is a shame that a character already settled with an actor has to change drastically because of the interpreter’s legal problems, but we will look to the future and reflect on what Mads Mikkelsen can contribute to this character, one of the most complex and unknown in the universe created by JK Rowling.
One of the main advantages that Mikkelsen will have when playing Gellert Grindelwald is that he is a practically unknown villain from the Harry Potter universe, His name will only sound familiar to those who have read the novels but it is not easy to get a complete idea of everything this character is and what hides since only his story is told above. He is not someone as ubiquitous as Voldemort, who he has known all his life, he is mentioned in all the books and his appearance and personality are perfectly described, a titanic task to bring him to life on the big screen that Ralph Fiennes took on and made The perfection.

We know about Grindelwald that he is intelligent, charismatic (He almost convinces Albus Dumbledore himself that wizards are superior to Muggles) and quite attractive, but we do not know how he moves, if he has a tic or if he speaks in any special way, which gives the actors great freedom to be able to make the character yours.
Grindelwald is not Jack Sparrow
It would not be fair to deny that Johnny Depp is one of the best actors of his generation and also one of the most iconic roles he has given us, but it is true that in recent years he seems stuck in one of those unforgettable roles that is none other than Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, a character who couldn’t be further from Grindelwald.

While the pirate is an egotist who only seeks pleasure and personal gain, the dark magician is what could be described as a book fascist and his way of behaving or acting could not be further from that of Sparrow, for that many did not understand that Depp gave Grindelwald that almost caricature air with gestures and tics that reminded a bit of the captain of the Black Pearl.

Another area that Mikkelsen has won because if you look at his impressive interpretation of Hannibal Lecter in the Hannibal series, in which he knew how to perfectly combine the strong charisma of the character that made you feel attracted to him with the fear that he could come up with. Just a look, it might be closer to what a character like Grindelwald could be than what Johnny Depp did at the time.

However, although We are confident that Mads Mikkelsen will win over Harry Potter fans with his performance in Fantastic Beasts 3It is still a shame that Johnny Depp has been expelled from the saga for the reason that he has been removed from it. Hopefully new and interesting projects will come up later.
