We present the results of the sixth edition of the survey conducted by the Polish Gamers Observatory and the Kraków Technology Park. This year, the Polish Gamers Research survey asked questions about playing in times of plague. How has the pandemic influenced the habits of players, especially the youngest of them? And how is the situation of little game lovers in a broader perspective?
Little players and their parents
594 parents of children under 18 participated in the study. They were asked if their offspring played games. Only 28.5% of the respondents answered in the negative. Among those whose children eagerly reach for digital entertainment, as many as 59% admitted that they play with them. 11% do it less than once a month, 24% do it once or twice a month, 26% about once a week and 31% several times a week. Moreover, 8% play with their children every day. These are definitely good results, but compared to the previous years, the number of parents playing has decreased. On the other hand, parents who share their children’s interests play with them more often than in previous years.

Anyone else paying attention to PEGI?
The fact that 48% of parents do not know what the PEGI system is. Researchers alarm that the situation is getting worse every year. Moreover, 28% of the respondents confirmed that they know what the system is, but do not use it. Only 24% of adults follow PEGI’s recommendations when choosing games for kids.
Not only Fortnite
Let’s move on to the preferences of young players. They chose their TOP 7 genres. Among them are action games, adventure games, sports / racing games, FPS and strategy.
Where do children get games from? 56% use free titles available on computers and phones. 28% receive the games of their choice from their parents and 20% receive the games their parents choose. 17% of young gamers buy access to entertainment using their own money.
However, how many games do you manage to get using a parent’s wallet? 19% of guardians of young gamers bought 4 or more games this year, 17% 3 games, 34% 2 games and 29% only one. Are these expensive titles? 3% of parents spend over PLN 200 on a single production. 24% pay from 101 to 200 PLN, and 40% limits this amount to 51-100 PLN. 19% did not spend more than PLN 50 on the game, and 6% did not pay more than PLN 20.
There is also the question of the famous skins. How many parents agree to use micropayments? 18% of respondents always agree to buy a skin, 31% agree to it from time to time, and 51% never agree.
Impact of Covid-19 on Gamers
The fact that the coronavirus has changed our habits is certain. We spend more time at home and we have to use it somehow. What do the numbers say about our new behaviors?

The respondents answered the question about the frequency of gambling in times of a pandemic. Those who have children also spoke for them. 10% of adults and 9% of children played less than before. 47% of adults / 37% of children have not changed their habits. On the other hand, 31% of adults and 39% of children play more often than before starting work / remote learning.
How did players spend up or down depending on the platform? 15% of consoles spend more than before, but 22% spend less. This trend also continues for other platforms. 13% of PC gamers have paid more for their entertainment, but 16% have paid the opposite.
This is what the habits of players look like in times of a pandemic. Both younger and older players were forced to stay at home. It was time to catch up and cut down on the “shame pile” so we didn’t spend more. Although young players enjoy a lot of freedom in choosing the games they play, their parents pay more attention to their (or their) wallets.
