We are going to explain how to change the name of a WhatsApp contact directly from the application itself. Actually, the names you see on WhatsApp are the same names you add those people to your phonebook, so it helps to go to the phonebook and change the name there. But the application also has a direct access to user profiles from which you can directly access the profile within your agenda.
How to get to this user profile depends on the situation, so we will tell you how to do it from the chat index, the user search engine or a group. In the first of all we will tell you the complete process, and with the search engine and the groups we will simply tell you what you have to do to go to the user’s profile on WhatsApp, from where we already explain in the first step how to proceed.
Change the name of a contact from a chat
We are going to start by explaining the complete process of renaming a contact from the chat list itself. The first thing you have to do is click on the photo of the contact whose name you want to change. You can also do it by clicking on their name within the conversation, but doing it from the chat list you finish earlier.
When you click on the profile image of the contact you want, a small window will open with quick options to send messages or make calls. In this frame, click on the information button you have with the letter i icon inside a circle. This will take you directly to the contact’s profile.
Within the profile file you will be able to see all the information of this contact. In it, first click on the button with the three points that you have in the upper right corner. Doing so will open a small menu, and in it you must click on the Edit option which appears second.
In doing so, you will enter the contact form of your mobile that will look one way or another depending on your operating system or customization layer. Here, all you have to do is change contact name, and you will change the name with which you will see it in any application, from making calls to WhatsApp.
Change the name of a contact with the search engine
If you want to change the name of a contact with whom you do not have a conversation from WhatsApp, on the main screen click on the magnifying glass icon. It is to open the search option, and you have it in the upper right corner of the screen.
You will go to a search screen, and in it you must look up the contact’s name (1) in which you want to make the changes. Once you see it in the results, click on your profile picture (2) or avatar to reopen the quick action window.
And with this step you will reach the window that we have told you before, where you should click on the information button to access the profile, from which you can now edit the contact information and change the name. The steps from here are the same as in the previous process.
Rename a contact in a group
When you are in a group with more users the process changes a bit. The first thing you have to do is click on the group name that you have at the top of the screen.
By doing so, you will enter a page with all the information about the group. In it, go down to the participants section and click on the user whose name you want to change. If there are many, you may have to use the search engine with the magnifying glass next to where it tells you how many participants there are.
A window will open with several options, ranging from sending a separate chat to the group member to dismissing him as an administrator. What you have to do here is click on the option View profile that will appear to you in second place. You will go to their profile page, where you can already repeat the steps that we have taught you at the beginning of the article to select the option to edit contact.
