Today we are going to explain how you can delete cookies from your browser on an Android mobile. As there are many browsers for Android, we will give you detailed instructions for the most popular ones: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge and Samsung Internet.
First of all, we will briefly explain what browser cookies are and what happens when you delete them, as well as what is the use of erasing them. We have included instructions for the major browsers. There is more, although as you can see, the process is very similar between different browsers.
What are cookies and what happens if you delete them
The name of cookies can be a bit confusing, but they are basically small pieces of information that web pages can save in your browser, for later reference. They include data such as the data of the session you have started or your preferences on a web page. For example, that you prefer to use the dark theme on a website, that you are looking for flights to Los Angeles or that your preferred currency is the euro.
If you delete the cookies, nothing happens Except that all the pages that you have open in that browser will be closed. This means that the next time you visit them, you will have to enter your username and password (and this, by the way, will generate a new cookie). You will also free up some space, although the truth is that cookies take up very little, being basically small pieces of text.
How to delete cookies in Chrome for Android
Google Chrome is the browser pre-installed in the vast majority of Android mobiles, so it is undoubtedly the most popular browser on these mobiles. To delete cookies in the Android version of Google Chrome, you must first open the menu, by tapping on the three-dot menu.
With the menu displayed, you must enter the section of Setting, almost at the end of it, at the bottom of the window. This is something common to all browsers, and the process is practically the same in most cases.
The configuration menu of Google Chrome has been growing and growing for a long time, although the option to delete cookies is in the Privacy section, because at the end of the day cookies store private information about your web browsing.
In Google Chrome, cookies are included in the navigation data. Therefore, already within the privacy menu you need to tap on Clear browsing data. Then you can choose exactly what you want to delete.
Now, make sure the box is checked Cookies and site data to delete cookies. If you wish, you can also delete your browsing history (the list of pages you have visited) and cached files and images (temporary files saved to save data if you need them again).
Press the button Delete data and you will see a window showing you some of the web pages that have saved cookies in your browser, so that you get an idea of what you are going to lose. If you don’t regret it, accept and the cookies will be cleared in a matter of seconds.
How to delete cookies in Firefox for Android
Mozilla’s browser is also available on Android, with some exclusive features (such as the ability to use plug-ins). As for deleting cookies, the process is quite similar to what we saw before, first you must open the options menu, by tapping on the three dots button.
Exactly the same as in Google Chrome, in the menu you need to tap on Setting, almost at the end of it. So far everything is the same as in Google Chrome, although the entire process is somewhat faster in Firefox as there is one less intermediate step.
Once inside the settings, scroll through the options until you almost reach the last one. There you will find Clean private data, where you can delete cookies as well as other traces of your web browsing.
That’s it, now you just need to make sure it’s checked Cookies and active sessions. Firefox allows you to erase many other private data, including history, cache, search history, and many more.
Press Clean data and all the cookies that Firefox has saved to date on your Android mobile or tablet will be deleted, as well as the rest of the elements that you have selected in the previous list.
How to clear cookies in Edge for Android
The process is exactly the same in the Android version of Microsoft’s browser, Edge, although the difference is that here the options menu (the three dots) are at the bottom of the window. Tap on it.
Once again, the second step is to enter the menu of Setting and, once again, this item is near the bottom of the list, all the way to the bottom. Tap on it to go to Microsoft Edge settings.
Already within the Microsoft Edge options, you must search and enter the section of Privacy, at the bottom of the options and within the group of options included in the Advanced Settings.
In the privacy settings, scroll through the list until you reach the item Clear browsing data. Tap on it to open the settings in which you can delete cookies and other traces left by your Internet activity.
Finally, make sure the option is checked Cookies and site data, although if you wish you can mark others to also clear the cache, the browsing history or the form data saved by Edge.
Press Remove and all the cookies that Microsoft Edge has saved up to that moment will be deleted, closing all the sessions that you had open on web pages until that moment (only in Edge, not in other apps or browsers).
How to delete cookies on Samsung Internet
Samsung mobiles come with their own browser installed, which is also available on Google Play for anyone to try. If it is your preferred browser, deleting cookies is just as simple. First, you must enter the options menu, which here are three stripes.
In this case it is not a vertical menu, but a kind of panel with the different options arranged in a grid. The one that interests us, however, is the same as always, Settings. Tap on it to enter the browser options.
Within the settings, scroll through the options until you find Privacy & Security. It’s near the bottom of the list, in the advanced options category under Advanced.
While above you can adjust if you want to accept cookies or not, the way to erase all cookies that are already in the browser is by tapping on Delete navigation data, within the Personal Data section.
Make sure it’s checked Cookies and site data and, if you want, check other boxes. Samsung Internet also allows you to clear your browsing history, cache, passwords, form data, and location access data. Press Delete to delete.
How to delete cookies in Opera
The Opera browser is available on Android in several variants, including Opera Mini and the new Opera Touch. We will explain how to do it in the normal version, although the process is practically the same in all of them. First, you must tap on the Opera logo, down.
In the menu that opens, choose Setting, the last option at the bottom. In this way you will go to the application settings, and the process to delete cookies is very similar to that of the rest of the browsers that we saw before.
Already within the options, you must scroll until you find Clear browsing data … In the case of Opera, the options do not have subcategories, but you must scroll until you find the section with the Privacy options.
Without further ado, it’s time to score Cookies and site data, as well as any other section that you want to take advantage of to delete as well, such as browsing history or passwords.
When you’re done, tap Delete data and the cookies and other items you have selected will be quickly removed from the Android version of Opera.
