Today we will see how you can listen to a podcast on iTunes, Apple’s platform where millions of episodes are hosted. We will also explain how you can subscribe to a podcast on iTunes to listen to it from your PC or Mac, or with your iPhone.
First we will tell you how to listen and subscribe to a podcast on iTunes from your PC or Mac, with iTunes. Then we will see how to take podcasts anywhere by listening and subscribing from the iOS Podcasts app.
In the computer
The Apple iTunes device management and playback program is available for both Windows and Mac. With it you can easily subscribe to any podcast by finding it yourself using the search engine or from a direct link to a podcast. The process is very simple, and the podcasts you subscribe to on your PC will also be available on your mobile thanks to iCloud.
Listen to a podcast on iTunes
Listening to podcasts on iTunes is very simple. If it is a podcast to which you are already subscribed, you will find the episodes by going to the library (1), by clicking the program name (2) and finally pressing the play button (3). Note: the button only appears when you hover the mouse over the area. If you are not subscribed yet … no problem! You will arrive at this same page from a direct link or using the iTunes search engine.
You don’t need to subscribe to a podcast to listen to it on iTunes. In the store itself, you can play any episode by clicking on the play button, after hovering the mouse. Playback continues as you continue browsing iTunes, and you can control it like a song.
Subscribe to a podcast on iTunes
To subscribe to a podcast on iTunes, it is normal for you to reach it from a direct link, but if not, you can always search the store. First of all, change the iTunes to Podcasts mode from the drop-down on the left side of the window, if it wasn’t already.
Normally iTunes opens in your library, but if you want to subscribe to a podcast then normally it is not in your library yet. Click on Store to browse or search for podcasts in the extensive iTunes store.
From here you can browse iTunes podcast suggestions for something cool. However, if you already know the name of the podcast that interests you, it is best to use the search box at the top of the window to search for it directly.
Search results mix episodes with podcasts, so the first thing to do is click podcast name to which you want to subscribe. This will open their information page, which is also where you will go if you have a direct link to a particular podcast.
Here you can already subscribe to the podcast as well as see its latest episodes and description. Press Subscribe and iTunes will take good note of it, in addition to downloading the latest episode and adding it to your library so you can listen to it immediately.
On mobile
Podcasts listed in iTunes can only be listened to from iPhone and iPad. If you have an Android phone, you will have to search for that same podcast on another system (for example, iVoox). On the iPhone, the one in charge of managing podcasts is the application of the same name, Podcasts.
Listen to a podcast
Listening to podcasts with your mobile is very easy very easy, especially when you have already subscribed to a program, since the episodes are downloaded and left ready to listen in the tab Hear, in the lower navigation bar. If you are not subscribed, you can also play podcast episodes that you find with the app search, simply tapping on the episode name.
In Listen, you can see the latest episodes of the podcasts to which you are subscribed, as well as any other episode that you have marked for download. Tap on the play button of any of them to start listening to it. If you prefer to see all the episodes of the same podcast instead of this medley, you can do so in the Library tab.
Subscribe to a podcast
Unlike iTunes on PC, the Podcasts application only contains this type of content, so everything is faster and easier. To subscribe to a podcast you can either find it in the suggested programs in Explore or use the search engine by tapping on Look for.
If you know the name of the podcast you want to subscribe to (or its author), type it in the search engine (1) to get the results. These can be shows or episodes (shown in two separate rows). Tap on the program you want to subscribe to (two).
You will then be shown the page with information about this particular podcast, including the most recent episodes and description. Tap on to subscribe to start downloading the latest episode automatically and receive notifications every time a new episode is available.
