We are going to explain to you how to request your birth certificate online, so that you do not have to move from home to obtain this official certification. At the time of birth, your parents had a month to appear at the Civil Registry to officially certify your birth and that there was an official record with their data, place, date and time of birth.
And there are several procedures in which this document will be requested. In these cases, you will be able to go to a Civil Registry office to request it or do it completely telematically in the event that you were born after 1950. For this procedure, you can use the digital certificate of the FNMT or the DNIe to make the process faster, although without them you will also be able to do it by filling out an even longer questionnaire with your data.
You will be able to request two types of accreditations. On the one hand, you can request a simple note from the civil registry with your basic data for purely informational purposes, although without any validity as a birth certificate. And then, you will have the online birth certificate itself. To request it, you will need to know the town in whose Civil Registry your parents registered you.
How to request a birth certificate online
The first thing you have to do is enter the website of the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Justice, whose address is sede.mjusticia.gob.es. Once inside, click on the option Certificate / Birth Certification that you have in the Procedures column, and that is the one that takes you to the process page.
Once inside the section of Certificate / Certification of Birth, whose direct page is this, you will have the option of obtaining the simple note of the civil registry or the electronic certification of birth for yourself. What we want is the second, that is, click on the button on-line processing with Cl @ ve for Electronic Birth Certification Request to start the process.
When you click, you will be redirected to the Cl @ ve system page, where you must choose the method to identify yourself. The fastest is click on the Access option of DNIe / Electronic certificate to use the certificate you have in the browser or the electronic DNI.
When you click, a window will open in the browser asking for the digital certificate you have installed. In it, you just have to choose the one for the FNMT and click OK to use it to verify your identity.
You will have two methods to request the certificate. The first is use the birth registration data, which are perhaps a bit more complicated. In anything, you must fill in these data and click on Continue. This will take you to a data confirmation page, and when you continue there the certificate will be given to you immediately unless there is an error in the data.
You will also have an option of Other data, which offers data to fill in much simpler. You will simply have to put the municipality in whose civil registry your parents registered, the date of birth, and the names of your parents. Then, click on Continue and verify the data in the second step so that, in the third, you will be shown the certificate if they are correct.
You can also order it without an electronic certificate
In the event that you do not have an electronic certificate, you will have another option of online processing without digital certificate. Here, instead of the certificate, you will be asked for various other information in a form to verify your identity.
In the event that you choose this option, you are going to have to fill in a large amount of data to verify your identity, so be patient. To begin, you will have to give your personal information and your address. Then, you will be asked for the certification data, the birth records, and the data of the person on whom the certification is requested. This process also serves to request the certificate of other people knowing their data.
