While the popularity of standalone virtual reality (VR) devices has increased over the past year, providing easy access to the rich library of high-quality VR content without the aid of a physical cable remains a major challenge. Today, HTC VIVE released the beta of VIVEPORT Streaming. It allows owners of VIVE Focus Plus or Wave Platform devices to enjoy VR content on their standalone VR devices. In addition to over 300 items of original Vive Wave content, VIVE Focus Plus owners can now access thousands of titles on Viveport, all from a native mobile user interface.

Viveport Streaming is free for Viveport Infinity members with a Vive Focus Plus, and will soon support other standalone VR devices with 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) control built on the Vive Wave platform. As long as the VR device and VR-enabled PC¹ are on the same 5GHz Wi-Fi network, the Viveport software automatically detects and pairs them with a single click.

“In the past, VR customers had to choose: either enjoy high-quality visuals and the large amount of content in libraries of PC-based VR systems, or take advantage of the wireless freedom and ease of use of a standalone VR device,” said Graham Wheeler, EMEA General Manager at HTC. “With Viveport Streaming, we now connect a content-rich library, including high-performance business apps, with the convenience of a standalone headset, all cable-free to PC.”

As the only unlimited VR subscription service, priced at €14.99/month or less with an annual plan, Viveport Infinity is the ideal place to explore the best of VR. With a library of VR classics like SUPERHOT VR and brand new releases like Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted and Battlewake, Infinity members can try hundreds of titles to discover their favourites. Users who have purchased the Vive Focus Plus will automatically receive a free six-month subscription to Viveport Infinity and also regularly enjoy special offers. Viveport users must upgrade their PC’s Viveport software and Vive Focus Plus firmware to the latest version to take advantage of this new feature. This service is currently only available for home users, but it is expected that it will also be accessible to the business market in the near future.

In addition, users of Oculus Quest headsets now have unlimited access to the Viveport Infinity catalog and can discover hundreds of games, applications and videos that are compatible with this headset.
