If you’re playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Wart on PS5, you should pay attention to this error.
If you’ve purchased the latest editions of CoD Cross-Gen or Ultimate, you might want to check to see if you’re going to get a good version on your new PlayStation console.
The strongest digital start to the Call of Duty series was Black Ops Cold War, which received a next-gen and a prev-gen version at the dawn of generational change. These have caused some headaches for both Activision and customers even when pre-ordering, but there seems to be no end to the confusion.
If you paid for one of the editions with both versions on PS5, you may want to check a few things if you’re going to be the happy owner of the new console (yes, we know, it’s given to quite a few people in Hungary for now).

The confusion is caused in part by one of PS5’s most promoted features, backward compatibility, which allows the new console to run the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as well. Because the game isn’t upgraded to the next-gen version for free, as Activision is asking for extra money, releases – the Cross-Gen package and the Ultimate Edition – have been released that were more expensive than the base package, in return for both versions.
However, it appears that if you select the option to download all content for the game during installation on the PS5, you will download not only the version for the new console, but also the PS4 case. What’s even bigger is that due to some malfunction, the system considers the release for previous consoles to be the default, which it can run without any problems due to its backward compatibility.

So if you’re one of the lucky ones to get the latest console in two days, you might want to check out which version of the game you’re installing during installation. Even if a bad version gets on the machine, there is no problem, as this can be changed in a few steps:
- Navigate to the game title in the main menu
- Scroll down and navigate to “Play” or “Play”
- Select the three items that appear and open the menu
- Select “PS5 | Full | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War”
- Start the game
SamaGame also reported that in some cases, deleting the PS4 version of Black Ops Cold War will cause an error in the download queue that prevents the PS5 version from being downloaded. The problem is reported to be reset by factory reset, but there is a good chance that an update will be fixed soon.

Black Ops Cold War takes us back to the times after the first Black Ops, the 1980s, where we had to shut down a Soviet spy on behalf of President Reagan, accompanied by Mason, Woods, and Hudson.
