A living and up-to-date museum

The Barcelona Erotic Museum is constantly evolving and, in addition to the new additions to its permanent collection, it hosts temporary exhibitions of all kinds. For this season the museum has received three proper names that enrich its exhibition: Gustav Klimt, Renée Jacobs and Fabrizio Facchini.

  • Gustav Klimt arrives at the museum

One of the additions that the museum receives this 2023 is the work of Gustav Klimt. The tour includes a reproduction of adam and eve (1917-1918) unfinished due to the author’s death, different erotic drawings from Klimt’s studio and a corner dedicated to his life and work. Throughout the exhibition, the interest that the Austrian artist showed in the feminine and sensuality is evident, something that was reflected from the beginning of his work, many times ahead of his time.

Klimt (1862-1918) was a revolutionary and transgressive artist, naked, explicit and sexual bodies are common among his works, very contrary to the moralism of his times. The exhibition is available in Room 9 of the museum, it lasts approximately 1h40′ and includes an audio guide and explanatory texts.

  • The censored photos of Renée Jacobs

From October 2022 until May 1, 2023, the Museo de la Erótica de Barcelona is hosting a very special photographic exhibition of Renée Jacobs, since her images were previously censored in a Barcelona gallery for being considered too erotic. To these are added other much more explicit photos never before exhibited and together they give shape to ‘Renée Jacobs- Partisan of the Lesbian Movement’, a whole protest action against censorship.

“I recommend that you consider whether you behave as a photographer or as a supporter of the lesbian movement,” they told Jacobs after removing almost all of the photographs that made up the ‘seeingWOMEN’ exhibition at the FotoNostrum Gallery in Barcelona. The gallery owner considered that some of the images were “too explicitly lesbian”, so they were removed from the exhibition without the knowledge or consent of the photographer. Now the Erotic Museum of Barcelona gives them a new opportunity.

  • The Land-Art of Fabrizio Facchini

, that is the title of the first work of the Italian sculptor Fabrizio Facchini considered Land-Art. A natural work of art, created from the trunk of a tree collected by the artist, which has opened up a new corner of Erotic Nature in the museum. was presented on March 16 and is part of the project Tronchi di Mare with which the Italian artist pays homage to the tree parts that arrive eroded on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea, and to which he gives shape by applying minimal modification.

Since 2012 Facchini alternates his work as a firefighter with his more artistic profile and from now on we can contemplate one of his most unique works in the room that the Barcelona Erotic Museum offers outdoors.
