Yes, several months have passed since we enjoyed John Wick: Chapter 4 in theaters, but even today the film continues to leave us headlines. In this sense, a few days ago we learned about how its leading actor, Keanu Reevesbegged for the fulfillment of a condition to film the highly acclaimed action film.

As those who have seen John Wick: Chapter 4 will know, the film can be seen as an end to “the adventures” of its titular murderer. Thus, we see how the character played by Keanu Reeves takes his last breath on the stairs of the Sacre Coeur in Paris, then discovering how Winston Scott visits what appears to be Baba Yaga’s tomb in New York.
For many, the death of the main character is more than demonstrated between these two scenes of the feature film, but others still have a halo of hope, one that only grows with the announcement of a fifth film. Now, thanks to an interview with film producer Basil Iwanyk, we know that the death of John Wick was a request from the Canadian actor.
“After the second, third and fourth movie, Making these movies ends up being very exhausting. and destroys Keanu, both physically and emotionally. (…) In the end, he always says: ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shadow of himself because he just goes off and tries. He was like, ‘I want to do this again,’ to be definitely killed off at the end of this movie. But we thought, ‘You know, we’ll leave a small opening of 10%.” – Statements collected by Collider
A few weeks ago we also heard some words from Chad Stahelski, director of the film, where he confirmed how an alternative ending was filmed where the character’s fate was more evident. “We had another ending. The one shown in theaters was the one Keanu and I wanted, but we recorded a different one where you actually saw John Wick at the end of the movie. One where It was very clear that he was still alive. However, the audiences wanted to remain ambiguous,” he explained.
The Continental expands the franchise this week
Be that as it may, Chapter 4 the audience liked it a lot and attracted enough audience for a fifth installment to be confirmed shortly after. This still presents doubts for his director, who made it clear that he will only return to the character if they find a story capable of touching his heartstrings.
The good news is that the saga will continue this Friday on television with the premiere of The Continental: From the John Wick universe on Prime Video. In spring, the premiere of Ballerina with Ana de Armas is scheduled, where Keanu Reeves has a role, while other spin-offs continue to be planned.
