Microsoft’s artificial intelligence event this Thursday has brought us more than just announcements related to its software products. The Redmond company has also announced hardware-related newsand. Specifically, two laptop updates, so we have new Surface Laptop Go 3 and Surface Laptop Studio 2.
The Surface range has had the Laptop Go for years. It is a laptop that seeks to present itself to the public with a compact size and reasonable price. These two characteristics place it in the entry segment, and possibly an alternative to consider for all those who do not need great features at the hardware level.
The Surface Laptop Studio, for its part, is the maximum expression of Microsoft at the level of portable computing. Since its inception, it boasts a folding screen, enormous performance and, above all, a distinctive design. Of course, we are looking at a high-end option whose qualities are reflected in a product whose price is above $1,500.
Now that we have a clearer idea of the essence of each of the proposals, let’s take a closer look at what this year’s update offers us.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3, a modest update, for a modest laptop
The third generation of the Microsoft Surface Laptop arrives with several changes, although not radical in relation to the previous generation, the Surface Laptop Go 2, which we had the opportunity to analyze last year. The laptop retains its 12.4 inch screen (a classic of the devices in its range), with PixelSense touch technology and 3:2 aspect ratio. At the resolution level, it offers us 1536 x 1024 pixels.
The heart of this laptop once again is Intel Core i5. As expected, it is updated to the American manufacturer’s 12th generation Alder Lake chips. This change, according to Microsoft, will make the laptop run “88% faster” than the previous generation. If we talk about RAM, we have the possibility of taking this section up to 16 GB (with a base of (GB). Regarding storage, the option is 256 GB SSD.
Changes at the connectivity level have manifested their absence. We continue with Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. As for the ports, the same as last year, that is, a USB-1 port, a USB-C port, a headphone jack connector. The Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Audio Premium and the 720p camera compatible with Windows Hello also remain.
Last year’s model promised us a battery life of up to 13.5 hours. Now we have the promise that we will be able to use the laptop “all day long.” It should be noted that this will depend on the use of the device, although it is a reference to keep in mind. Regarding the OS, it will arrive with Windows 11.
Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2, an ambitious laptop that aspires to be the best
Now it’s the turn of Microsoft’s most ambitious laptop. This qualification is not exaggerated, since it is the mobile computing proposal that the Redmond company has nurtured the most. In fact, convinced of the product they have created, they have not hesitated to call it “the most powerful Surface device“, and they have even put it against a MacBook Pro with Apple’s M2 Max SoC which, according to Microsoft, it has passed in a rendering test.
So, what does this device have to present itself as such? Come on. We find a device with a touch screen with 14.4-inch PixelSense technology, 120 Hz refresh rate, 2400 x 1600 pixel resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio and Dolby Vision IQ support. At this point, the manufacturer has repeated the formula of last year’s Surface Laptop 2, so we don’t see a substantial change.
If we talk about the processor, unlike the Surface Laptop Go 3, this alternative goes for the most powerful Intel. We have the possibility to choose between two Intel Core i7 processors (details in the technical sheet) under the manufacturer’s EVO label. At the graphic level, the issue also goes to the next level. We will choose between the basic Intel Iris Xe or the most advanced NVIDIA RTX with between 6 GB and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory.
The RAM memory section comes with the possibility of being configured with 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB LPDDR5x. As for storage, the options are 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB, always talking about NVMe SSD. Overall, this set of elements should offer twice the performance of the previous generation compatible model, according to Microsoft.
Regarding the ports we can say that the device boasts 2 USB-C ports (USB4/ Thunderbolt 4) with support for DisplayPrt and Power Delivery. A USB-A 3.1, a MicroSDXC slot, a headphone jack port and the classic Surface Connect port. In wireless connectivity we find Wifi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. At the software level, the options are Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro.
