It’s one of the biggest problems facing the industry right now: with the rise of digital games, we risk losing hundreds of adventures with each change of generation. Nintendo said goodbye to dozens of titles with the closure of the Wii U and 3DS eShop, while Xbox is preparing to do the same with more than two hundred titles that will no longer be available after closing the Xbox 360 store. And with that, we say goodbye to truly memorable experiences that, sometimes, They are barely found in physical format.

For this reason, today we wanted to make a compilation with some titles that, after leaving their mark on the hearts of many players, disappeared from all digital platforms. And although most can be found in physical format, getting a copy can be a rather frustrating adventure. We leave you with a selection of 11 titles, but you can expand the list with your own additions in the comments box.

Black & White 2

Although Peter Molyneux first surprised us with the original Black & White, players were not disappointed with the second installment. In fact, the concept evolved by adding new features and unprecedented challenges for the god-player, but the title was no longer available digitally and can now only be accessed legally with a physical copy.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

It is one of those games that marks the childhood of thousands of players, so we are talking about an important loss. Luckily, there are still plenty of PS2 units online, so players can return to this epic adventure if they’re willing to dig into trading platforms.

Forza Horizon 1,2 and 3

As it is a license that collaborates with numerous motorsport brands and musical artists, it was to be expected that the first Forza would disappear at some point due to rights issues. Luckily, Xbox included these titles in the Games with Gold program to give access to a larger number of users before their final withdrawal.

GTA San Andreas

One of the most iconic titles of our childhood and, probably, one of the best games in the entire Rockstar portfolio. Currently, this title is only available along with GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City in the GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition compilation; a version that disappointed the community due to its bugs and graphic quality.

Marvel vs Capcom 2

Although it is a genre with a smaller fan base, few fighting games manage to leave a mark on the community’s memory. Here we mention only one of the most legendary installments of the Marvel vs. saga. Capcom, but rights problems over the use of Marvel properties have also caused the disappearance of other titles in the franchise, although there are still physical copies on the Internet.

Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

One of the most painful entries on this list. The withdrawal of Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast from digital stores was not final, at least at first. Ultimately, the title returned months after its initial removal and lasted a few weeks before disappearing forever.

We know that it is not a complete game, but it is still one of the most curious phenomena in the history of video games. After making our hair stand on end with what would later be known as Silent Hills, Konami canceled the launch of the title and permanently removed the demo from the PS Store, thus generating a wave of criticism.

Prey (2006)

Although many applaud the reimagining of Arkane with Prey (2017), a good part of the players continue to remember the original 2006 title as one of the best action and shooting installments. The license, unfortunately, passed through many hands before falling into oblivion.

The Simpsons Hit & Run

It is a delivery with several years behind it, but many of us remember this GTA-style adventure as if we had played it yesterday. In fact, fans of The Simpsons: Hit & Run are massively asking for a remake of the original installment, and there is a user who has set to work to fulfill this dream.

Beyond speculation, the official reasons why EA decided to remove Titanfall from digital stores are unknown. Recently, an unexpected update in Titanfall 2 caused thousands of players to return to Respawn’s FPS, so there are still many fans of the brand who would return to the original installment if they had the opportunity.

Wolfenstein

Its withdrawal from digital stores was followed by Wolfenstein: The New Order, so there is good reason to think that the disappearance of the original Wolfenstein was an attempt by Zenimax to avoid confusion. Ultimately, The New Order acts as a reinvention of the canon.
