This game didn’t appear at The Game Awards, but it is one of my favorites of the year. Blasphemous 2 is a great metroivania

A few hours ago, The Game Awards was held, a very special gala for those of us who like video games. Leaving aside the string of interesting new announcements that occurred during the event, we cannot forget that in the end it is an awards ceremony. Games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 (deservedly) won a huge number of awards, something quite laudable if we take into account that this 2023 has given a lot in terms of launches.

Now, it is impossible to ignore that among nominees and games that were not even present at the gala we can also find real gems. I have been able to enjoy high-quality games in 2023, and although there are many of them present in my game, I would like to highlight one that I think has enough arguments to be one of those games that is worth recommending to everyone. I am referring to Blasphemous 2, a game whose PS5 version we can purchase for very little: 25.99 euros.

The first Blasphemous is one of those indie games that, without being perfect, is capable of giving you a good number of hours capable of staying on your retina. When the Spanish studio The Game Kitchen announced that it was working on a sequel, it generated a good dose of . Upon the arrival of the game, it was amply justified: Blasphemous 2 is one of the gems of 2023.

Blasphemous 2 is one of the best metroidvania of recent years

Clarifying that Castelvania: Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite games of all time, it is clear that when a new metroidvania appears I like to get my hands on it as soon as possible. It happened to me with the first installment of this Blasphemous, and from the first minutes of its sequel I could already see that it is a much more rounded title. Everything is better resolved: from the movement of the protagonist (much more agile now) to the combat system, the scenarios and the enemies.

The introduction of new weapons gives it a very interesting variety, which is even present while we move through its scenarios. Everything we can expect from a metroidvania is present, from exploration to . The game is full of well-known references to Spanish and Andalusian culture and folklore, something that won’t take long to see. Furthermore, it is one of those games that catches your eye, since its artistic design is the best I have seen in a long time. For me, one of the games of this 2023 that is easier to recommend.
