When Marvel’s Avengers releases in September, you’ll step into the shoes of fan favorites like Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Ms. Marvel. It seems normal to take on these well-known protagonists, doesn’t it?
“From the start, we intended to make a game as a team,” said Scot Amos, studio director at Crystal Dynamics. “The Avengers are a team, a family. They have their problems and are a big family. In the 80-year history of Marvel, there have been many, many people who have been part of the Avengers. “
“Likewise, it was clear to us from the start that we wanted all of these heroes to be playable characters because it’s people’s imagination,” he continues. “The idea of becoming one of those heroes you know – or if they’re new to you.” This is a Version of these heroes. We want to give players the option to say, “Now it’s Black Widow, Hulk, or Iron Man. That was the idea behind the game from the start. ”
“We wanted an Avengers story and to show you that you’re stronger as a team,” added Creative Director Shaun Escayg. “It’s the DNA behind the Avengers concept. At the same time, we challenge this concept of superheroes. There is this wonderful series called Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. She shows the Avengers from a different angle of dangerous and powerful. Beings that plunge humanity into chaos, from the perspective of a journalist called [Phil] Sheldon. «
“It’s an interesting approach, and it sets it apart from all the other stories about the dissolved Avengers,” he explains. “You one day have this disaster, the failure of the Avengers. They have lost Cap and the public outrage is great. Some people have been hurt, including our villainous George Tarleton. He was there with the Terrigen Mist. Basically his job was to protect humanity and ensure a level playing field with Terrigen Mist. ”
“He made a deal with Stark Industries and went to this event,” Escayg explains. “He warns them that what’s wrong with the commercials, but they keep their show going and then it blows up.” He is hurt, disfigured, and his opinion of these heroes changes. He is now convinced that they are dangerous. “And science and technology is the only way to control them, which is the basis of its transformation into MODOK [Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing] tracks. “
And then there’s Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, who made her first appearance in the Marvel Universe in 2013. “Our heroine is also on site,” Escayg explains. “She’s a teenager, loves the Avengers and wants to prove herself as a fan. She was hoping to win in a fan fiction contest. So she goes there and comes in contact with the shit Terragen. From that moment on, she is considered an inhuman person and a stranger. She struggles with her newfound powers, but still loves these heroes. ”
It’s a unique perspective for Escayg as she is a huge fan. It creates a connection with real players and fans. “She’s a huge fan and in her quest for the truth about A-Day, she’s indirectly responsible for reuniting the Avengers,” he said.
“That was the basic approach to our storytelling, which heroes we choose and how we create the greatest potential for conflict,” he says. ” GOAL [Advanced Idea Mechanics] continues to grow and become more powerful. If you know the comics, you know they had a lot of villains and rulers. And what happened to the heroes in those five years, what did they do? I would say the stage is set for an expansion with a lot of new stories, heroes, and villains. ”
Last week there was a new look at the history, gameplay, and co-op for Marvel’s Avengers, and Square Enix had also confirmed free upgrades for Marvel’s Avengers on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
