Microsoft backs down and will release Gears 5 as a Win32 app and not UWP.

It was a matter of time, but we have to say that it has taken a long time for Microsoft to take the right direction again. And it is that the games that have been championed under UWP have not received good reviews due to the problems they have had, but now those of Redmond seem to return to the path abandoning UWP for their latest title Gears 5, is your graphics card ready for this play?
Problems with UWP condemn Microsoft to gradually abandon its implementation
Universal Windows Platform, also called UWP, was born as an API to bring them all together within Windows 10, an API that was universal to the Microsoft ecosystem to avoid software having to be written for each specific platform.

Although the idea sounds logically good and would avoid a lot of work for developers, in practice this is not the case, since there are innumerable problems that many users are having with the games that support it.
From massive performance drops, game launch issues, synchronization issues with G-SYNC and FreeSync and a host of incompatibilities that shouldn’t exist.

Part of these problems have come after the Windows 10 updates, where UWP updates have been added to the inherent problems of these. For this reason and after not being able to solve the problems in their entirety, Microsoft seems to have taken a step back in their personal crusade.

And it is that now we know that his next title Gears 5 will not arrive as a UWP game, but in a “traditional” way, that is, under Win32.
This means that it will not be exclusively locked under the Microsoft store, now called the Microsoft Store, but will reach other platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, etc.

Although as we say it is a step back from Microsoft and apparently in the right direction, Gears 5 will still need an Xbox Live account to run the game and under Xbox Game Pass PC users must use the Microsoft Store to play it.
Different editions and prices, same technical requirements
As we have mentioned, Gears 5 will arrive on Steam at a price of 69.99 euros in its normal version, while the Gears 5 Ultimate Edition version will go up to 79.99 euros, where both versions can currently be reserved since the game will be released on September 10.
In addition, buyers of the Ultimate version will have a small prize, since Microsoft will enable access to the game four days before and they will receive a package called Halo: Reach Character in the game, where they will also have 30 days of “boost”.
