Minecraft’s Steve and Alex join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.

On October 14, Minecraft, the world-famous game, will send two of its best rectangular heroes to join the endless roster of fighters from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch. Steve and Alex will be the seventh downloadable fighters to join the game, and are part of the second pack of the contender of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Fighters Pass Vol. 2, which also includes a new stage and seven music tracks from the Minecraft series.

In a video of Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Super Smash Bros. explained what the new fighters are like and provided a detailed list of their unique moves, including the ability to excavate scenarios for materials to make tools and build blocks that can be used in various ways in combat.

When selecting this new fighter, players will be able to choose between Steve or Alex, each with three different appearances. Additionally, players will be able to choose the appearance of Minecraft’s zombie or Enderman characters. And all these characters, although they look different, have the same movements:

  • The basics. Similar to Minecraft, players can hold down the attack button to walk while swinging a sword, ax, or pickaxe. These are attacks with limited movement, but with a range. These tools can also be used to execute new Super Smash Bros. abilities: mining, crafting, and creating blocks.
  • Undermine. During combat, Steve and Alex can use the tools to dig into the ground or the walls of each stage and extract materials, which will depend on the type of surface, and include: earth, wood, stone, iron, gold and diamond. For example, you can dig in the trees of the Kongo Forest and obtain a large amount of wood, while it is easier to obtain iron in Corneria.
  • Manufacture. After mining, players will be able to use the obtained materials to craft tools. Steve and Alex’s tools have a limited life span and can be broken, so it’s vital to keep crafting new tools to maintain your advantage on the battlefield. This is possible by standing in front of the work table that will appear on the stage. The more valuable the material, the more powerful the tool.
  • Create block. Steve and Alex also have the ability to create blocks. By making use of this move, players will create blocks that can be stacked and strategically placed in defensive maneuvers. Building blocks consumes materials, just like making tools, so you will need to keep mining to maintain supply.
  • Final Smash. Steve and Alex’s explosive Final Smash is called House of Blasts. After destroying the Smash Ball, players will be able to form a gigantic piston that will send opponents flying towards the House of Blasts. At that point, the iconic Minecraft creepers will set off an explosion and deal heavy damage.
  • Minecraft world. The setting included in this Fighters Pass Vol. 2 pack is the Minecraft world, which contains six different zones inspired by the original Minecraft game. The zones that can be destroyed in each combat change randomly. In this scenario, day and night also pass, during which zombies and skeletons will appear to instill panic in the players.
  • Music tracks. Because Minecraft music has a soothing character appropriate to inspire building creativity, the new music tracks selected for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate belong to the more action-packed Minecraft franchise games such as Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Dungeons.
