Design: more of this robust, functional and conservative recipe

In a sector much more static than that of smartphones, from which several manufacturers have left the ship over the years, Amazon remains firm in its proposal to safe tablets in the design section.

Thus, we will notice few differences compared to its predecessor or even to the Fire HD 7 (2019) – in the latter case, obviously beyond the size of its diagonal – that is to say with some powerful and clearly marked rectangular frames.

Plus, the button layout continues to prompt you to use it horizontally. A quick glance at the dimensions and weight shows that Amazon managed to cut a few grams for the new Fire HD 8 (2020) and cut a few millimeters across the width to put it on, or similar: Fire HD 8 (2020) is slightly more square.

While Amazon didn’t specify the material of its chassis, it is likely to remain polycarbonate like the rest of the family, a very durable plastic.

However, he said it was designed for everyday use and has been subjected to “over 50 tests that simulate drops, spills and other accidents that can occur on a daily basis.” Or what is the same, a combat tablet.

That New Fire HD (2020) hold the headphone jack and switch to the USB-C port, which had already been integrated in Fire 7 (2019), replacing the microUSB that was in the previous model.

Display: last name says it all

Features of Amazon Fire Hd 8

If the Fire 7 (2019) is the tablet with a 7-inch diagonal, the last name gives us a hint of the expected diagonal in this Fire HD 8 (2020), which has nothing in this section yet. Why do we say this? Because according to the specifications, the new Fire HD 8 diagonal, resolution and dots per inch identical to those of the predecessor. Amazon details that these new Fire HD 8 2020 implements an included polarizing filter.

Thus, models 7 and 8 incorporate panels with IPS technology 7 and 8 inches respectively, with a fairly low density for what is common in the resolutions found in current smartphones.

Based on our experience with the Fire 7 (2019) and previous models, they offer a sufficient visual experience and sensitivity in terms of quality, but it’s not the best choice if we’re going to spend hours in front of them.

Hardware: a renovation as accurate as necessary

If we have seen some variations on the outside, inside the thing changes: the new Fire HD 8 (2020) implements a processor at 30% speed than the previous one. It also blows up to 2GB of RAM, only half a gigabyte more than the previous version and double that of the 7-inch model.

The new model too storage space doubledThus, from the 16 and 32 GB available in its predecessor and in the Fire 7 (2019), we have gone to 32 and 64 GB with an SD slot capable of holding cards up to 1 TB.

At the material level, the new tablet makes the difference compared to the rest of the Amazon catalog: it’s not just a bigger screen, it’s that this internal muscle makes it the most suitable if you want to use it moderately regularly.

There is no doubt that, according to cold specifications, the fire is generally tight. While it is true that Amazon manages to stretch the components with a high level of optimization thanks to its intuitive and functional Fire OS software layer (Based on Android), something we have had the opportunity to verify in our reviews.

Of course, it’s important to remember that Amazon tablets do not have access to the Google app store – although it is possible to do so – so restricts them to a more limited selection of applications with absences like LaLigaSportstv, El Mundo, LaSexta, Audible or Sky.

In its presentation, Amazon highlighted a novelty in software: the arrival of a game mode for a “streamlined, distraction-free experience” while we play.

Excellent battery life and USB-C

One of the strengths of Amazon tablets is their autonomy: while the Fire 7 (2019) offers around 7 hours and the previous version reached 10 hours, with this Fire HD 8 (2020) battery life increases by 20% up to 12 hours, in all cases according to the manufacturer.

In our previous reviews of Fire 7 (2019) and Fire 8, we found that these figures are quite true to reality for uses such as watching series, browsing, playing music, and basic games, although the battery life of the most demanding titles has suffered.

As we anticipated in the design section, the Fire HD 8 (2020) changes the microUSB for USB-C, a port already installed in the 7-inch model and which leaves charging time at about five hours.

Price is always her biggest claim

In summary, the main new features of the Fire HD 8 (2020) are the possibility of double storage capacity, more efficient hardware and a range that has increased by 20%. What has not increased is the price, which continues with 99 euros as a starting point (114.99 euros without advertising). If we opt for the 64 GB model, the price rises to 129 euros (144.99 euros without advertising).

The other option is the Fire 7 (2019), which starts at $ 69.99 for the 16GB model and $ 79.99 for the 32GB, both with ads. Without special offers, the price goes up to 84.99 euros and 94.99 euros more for the 16 and 32 GB models respectively.

The PVP of the Fire HD 8 (2018) is identical to that of the official Fire HD 8 (2018): 99 euros in a 16 GB version with advertisements and 114.99 euros for the 32 GB version, although curiously Amazon has downloaded the price , offer less benefits for more money.
