New Huawei Nova 4, characteristics, price and technical sheet.

The perforated screen comes to replace the ‘notch’ as a solution to incorporate the front camera. Several manufacturers have already announced that they will incorporate this new design in their mobile devices and Huawei is one of them. The Huawei Nova 4 has been officially presented today and thus becomes the The company’s first smartphone to bet on the perforated screen.

The Huawei Nova are located between the high range, represented by the Huawei P and Mate, and the mid-range, normally occupied by the Lite versions. The Huawei Nova 4 therefore stays halfway, with some of Huawei’s latest additions but with more humble internal specifications. In this year’s model, it is used to show us its latest design on screens and inherits from his older brothers the triple camera just as planned.

A perforated IPS panel with a 4.5mm hole

The Honor View 20 already arrived with a hole in its screen and this Nova 4 repeats play. In the upper left corner we will find a small 4.5 mm hole, the same size as the Honor model although less than the 6.5mm of the competition, as reported during its presentation.

The appearance of the ‘notch’ has been much discussed and it does not seem that this hole is without criticism. Despite this, in the race to achieve the highest screen ratio, this solution allows us to improve on previous numbers. According to official Huawei data, we are facing a ratio of 91.8% or 86.3%, depending on how the measurement is carried out.

This smaller incorporation would theoretically allow it to be better integrated into the notification bar, although at the moment we have not been able to see in detail how the interface behaves next to it. Leaving aside the hole, the screen chosen for the Nova 4 is of 6.4 inches with IPS technology and a FullHD + resolution of 2310 x 1080 pixels for a density of 398ppp.

The rest of the body of the Huawei Nova 4 is built in glass with gradients in reddish, blue, black and off-white tones. The fingerprint reader is located on the back and we have USB Type-C at the bottom. On the 3.5mm jack, without confirmation, there seems to be no trace of its presence.

The best Kirin processor of the previous generation

Like what we have seen in low-cost terminals such as the Honor Play, this Huawei Nova 4 incorporates a powerful Kirin 970 processor. The same chipset that to date the company’s flagships had incorporated.

Together with the Kirin 970 and its neural processing unit, they accompany us 8GB of RAM. A generous amount that in combination with that processor should provide the terminal with enough power for all kinds of tasks and offer good performance. To complement it, Huawei adds its GPU Turbo graphics acceleration.

Regarding the battery, the Huawei Nova 4 incorporates 3,750 mAh with fast charge. Finally, the internal hardware section is complemented with a single 128GB version.

The triple camera is expanded by the rest of Huawei models

The Huawei P20 Pro was the first model to incorporate the triple rear camera but this trend has also expanded to the Mate 20 series. Now we see that the Chinese manufacturer intends to offer this technology in its more affordable terminals. The Huawei Nova 4 has two different versions, although both have three rear lenses.

The most complete model comes with a triple rear camera whose main sensor is 48 megapixels, Sony IMX586 sensor, f / 1.8 aperture and 1.6 µm pixels. It is accompanied by a secondary lens of 16 megapixels and wide angle with aperture f / 2.2 and a third for the realization of portrait mode with two megapixels and an aperture f / 2.2. For the standard model, the secondary cameras are maintained but the main sensor remains at 20 megapixels with the same aperture of f / 1.8.

As is customary in the company, the cameras are powered by artificial intelligence for scene detection and selective blurring. As for video recording, the Huawei Nova 4 comes with 4K video, super slow motion at 960fps and HDR Pro.

Nova 4 versions and price

The presentation of the Huawei Nova 4 has been reserved for China and its plans for international expansion are not yet known, if Huawei finally bets on it. The most complete version with 48 megapixel main camera is now available for pre-sale and will arrive from next December 27 at a price of 3,399 yuan (about 435 euros).

The standard model with a 20-megapixel camera comes at a price of 3,099 yuan, which represents about 396 euros in exchange. In terms of finishes, the Huawei Nova 4 offers four gradients in shades of red, blue, white and black.
