A 2007 iPhone belonging to a beautician breaks the sales record for an Apple phone

If Apple seduces with its latest iPhones, the American firm also succeeds in uniting crowds around its very first smartphone. Released in 2007, this iPhone pioneer was sold for $63,356 at auction this Saturday, February 18 by LCG Auctions. This is not the first time that this item has not set auction records. In October 2022, the device, still packaged in its box, had sold for nearly $40,000.

According to SamaGame, this phone belonged to Mrs. Green, a beautician who had received it as a gift from her friends after being accepted into a new job. Customer with the Verizon operator, iPhones at the time were only compatible with the AT&T operator. Rather than pay high cancellation fees and risk losing her phone number, Ms. Green left the phone on her shelf for years, unopened and unused.

An initiative which has therefore allowed her to be the happy owner of a small nest egg, which she will use to support her business, a cosmetic tattoo studio located in the state of New Jersey. “The only reason I’m selling this phone is because I need to support this company,” she told SamaGame.

A revolution

8 GB of memory, a 2 megapixel camera and a 3.5 inch screen… the first iPhone was a real revolution launched by Steve Jobs. On January 9, 2007, at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, the American entrepreneur declared: “Today, Apple will reinvent the telephone.” And he was not wrong. Very quickly, the models followed one another and aroused enormous enthusiasm. The iPhone is credited with popularizing the smartphone and the slate format, as well as creating a large market for smartphone applications. To date, 34 iPhone models have been produced by Apple.
