A scientific commission on parenting launched Monday to “support overwhelmed parents”

The Minister of Solidarity and Families Aurore Bergé announces that, for six months, experts will work to formulate “concrete proposals” on parenthood. A first meeting is planned for Monday December 11.

This council will be co-chaired by child psychiatrist Serge Hefez and by the author of surveys on youth, founder and director of the company Notre Avenir à Tous, Hélène Roques, both volunteers.

It will have 25 members, “demographers, magistrates, child psychiatrists, philosophers”, according to the minister. Among them, researcher Irène Théry, child psychiatrist David Cohen and even judge Alice Grunenwald. All were chosen by Aurore Bergé.

Six months of work

This commission will be responsible for working for the next 6 months and making “concrete proposals” to help families “meet the challenges of parenting today”, according to the minister.

According to La Tribune Dimanche, the main avenues for reflection relate to “support options for overwhelmed parents, the resolution of family conflicts, the management of violence and addictions among young people”.

The members of this council should also look into “support for single parenthood”, “the involvement of fathers and spouses”, “the relationship with screens and social networks” and “the training of a greater number of mediators”.

The whole must make it possible to propose solutions coming “upstream of already existing psychiatric, social and legal pathways”.

“Overwhelmed parents”

“I have one certainty: we cannot do without parents, nor without them, nor against them,” explains Aurore Bergé in the columns of the weekly.

“There is clearly a question of authority to be restored, it is neither corny nor reactionary to say so. We can clearly see that parents can be overwhelmed, disoriented in the face of new risks (…) and all social circles are concerned,” she believes.

Referring to “these mothers going out in the evening into the street to collect their children and put them back on the right path” during the riots at the end of June, Aurore Bergé believes that “we cannot be interested in parenting only face to face”. of crises.

The minister also announced during this interview the establishment of “community service for defaulting parents”. She must begin “a parental tour of France” on Monday, with a first stage near Angers.
