One of the passengers seriously injured in the accident which occurred around 5:30 a.m. on November 18 in Sorde-l’Abbaye in Landes did not survive his injuries. An investigation has been opened. The driver, aged 20, was taken into custody and alcohol and drug tests are underway.

An 18-year-old man died a few hours after the serious accident which occurred on Saturday November 18 on the A64, in the town of Sorde-l’Abbaye. Nine people were in the car, a Peugeot 207. The driver of the vehicle was taken into police custody. Like his passengers, he will be heard as part of the investigation entrusted to the motorway platoon. Toxicological analyses, alcohol and narcotics, are underway. If drug or alcohol consumption is proven, these could constitute aggravating circumstances. The Dax public prosecutor’s office indicates that he could be indicted for acts of “involuntary homicide” due to inattention or recklessness.

Two of the nine passengers were very seriously injured in the accident and transported to the Bayonne hospital center. One of them, whose vital prognosis was compromised, did not survive his injuries. He was 18 years old. Another passenger is hospitalized in serious condition. Four other passengers were slightly injured.

This Saturday, November 18, around 5:30 a.m., the 207 was traveling on the A 64 motorway in the Toulouse-Bayonne direction, when for a reason still undetermined, the driver lost control while overtaking and the vehicle overturned on Highway. Eight young adults and a minor, returning from an evening in Béarn, were inside. The investigation will have to determine the circumstances of the accident, the driver’s responsibility and the reason why so many people crowded into this small car.
