The French coast is increasingly popular with drug traffickers, who hang bales of cocaine under boats. Drug seizures have exploded in recent years.
Nearly two tonnes of cocaine were collected in less than three weeks on the Normandy coast, the same quantity as nine months ago, in Néville-sur-Mer (Manche). The police had discovered bundles attached to floats and life jackets. The drugs would be suspended under the boat during the journey from the producing countries. The French coasts are increasingly popular with drug traffickers to avoid the more secure gates of Northern Europe.
The price of cocaine has fallen
If Antwerp (Belgium) and Rotterdam (Netherlands) represent half of the continent’s cocaine seizures, with 110 tonnes and 47.5 tonnes respectively, more than 27 tonnes were seized in France in 2022, a number almost multiplied by ten in twenty years. Since 2010, the circulation of cocaine has increased in Europe. Its price has notably decreased in recent years.
