DIRECT. Alzheimer’s in my family or loved ones

On the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day, Franceinfo Talk welcomes Lucie Delorme, SSIAD ADMR 20 nurse coordinator, the singer, composer, author and producer Augustin Charnet and Doctor Emmanuel Cognat, neurologist, university professor and practitioner.

Thursday September 21 is world Alzheimer’s day, which affects 225,000 new cases each year in France. There is 1.2 million French people affected by the disease. During this day, numerous events are organized to raise awareness and inform the general public about Alzheimer’s disease: breaking taboos on the symptoms of the disease, informing patients’ loved ones and meeting their needs, highlighting actions implemented by associations throughout France.

A promising treatment project?

A glimmer of hope last January and July. The United States has approved two new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. These, called “lecanemab” and “donanemab”, would reduce cognitive decline and therefore slow the progression of the disease. These treatments are not not authorized in France, and hopes must be tempered. They are accompanied by risks that cannot be neglected and these are reserved for very early treatment.
