James Gun recently delivered his verdict on the current state of superhero movies. His judgment, lazy!
James Gunn has released banger superhero movies left and right! He’s pretty much the only one who managed to make a DC movie that was actually a lot of fun, so you could say he got it all figured out. Now he has commented on the state of superhero movies, stating how “.
James Gunn is a prominent American director, screenwriter, and producer, who has received wide acclaim for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Especially his work with the Guardians of the Galaxy series brought a lot of attention to Gunn and his work.
Its unique blend of humor, action, and character development has redefined superhero movies, providing Marvel with a blueprint they haven’t deviated from since Endgame. And that’s the problem!
James Gunn with a devastating verdict on the current state of superhero movies
While appearing on the Inside of You podcast, Gunn talked about his 10-year plan for the DCEU, addressing the biggest problem with superhero movies these days in the process.
Although many people argue that the market is simply saturated with superhero stuff, Gunn has a different take on the matter.
It’s not necessarily a quantity issue – if they weren’t “lazy”, complaints would be rare. People have gotten really lazy with their superhero stories.
It’s a pretty simplified explanation, but it sums it up pretty well. Gunn also goes into more detail, explaining how most superhero stories lack vision and understanding of the story they’re trying to tell.
- can help you.
They got to the place where, ‘Oh, he’s a superhero, let’s make a movie about it.’ And then, ‘Oh, let’s do a sequel, because the first one did pretty well,’ and they don’t think about, ‘Why is this story special? What makes this story different from other stories? What is the story at the heart of it all? Why is this character important? What makes this story different so that it fulfills a need for people in theaters to go see?
Clearly, Gunn plans to not make the same mistake for his vision of the DCEU, and his ability to pinpoint the main problem people have with the MCU like that, actually builds some confidence for DC going forward.
We’ll have to wait and see if James Gunn actually manages to follow through on this, but so far it looks promising.
