The viewership was crazy throughout the 2023 League of Legends World Championship and the finals broke world records.

The 2023 League of Legends World Championship is over. Faker and T1 are world champions again, while the rest of his team wins the Summoner’s Cup for the first time.

The team did so with huge expectations on their shoulders as “Korea’s last hope.” The whole tournament was crazy, and with a new format, every match was exciting, leading to the World Championship final breaking an esports world record.

Esports Leaderboards tracks viewership for all esports tournaments and reported, following the conclusion of the World Finals, that this year’s World Championship broke an esports record, previously held by the Free Fire World Series in 2021.

T1 vs SamaGame Gaming managed to surpass the peak of 6 million viewers – without taking into account the Chinese audience – which is a first for an esports event in the world.

Esports viewership, particularly for the League of Legends World Championship, is steadily growing, with the 2022 Finals peaking at 5.1 million and the 2021 Worlds peaking at 4 million.

Now, the 2023 World Finals has seen a peak of 6.4 million viewers, a new record for every esports event in the world, truly crowning the most popular League of Legends esports great in sport.

Even though the entire tournament did not break the total viewing time record of previous World Championships like 2021, it is important to remember that there were fewer matches played this year thanks to the new format.

But it also meant there were a lot more meaningful plays. Riot is likely going to stick with the Swiss format for the upcoming World Championships, although they have already revealed that some adjustments could be made in the next tournament.
