Microsoft sells spare parts for Surface

Do-it-yourself repair of Microsoft Surface devices is gaining momentum with the Redmond group selling spare parts.

For its Surface devices, Microsoft is introducing the sale of spare parts and replacement kits. These elements are offered in the Microsoft Store online store where it is written: ” Extend the life of out-of-warranty Surface PCs with genuine Microsoft replacement parts. ”

Along with the United States and Canada, France is one of the first countries to benefit from such availability through the Microsoft Store. It will be extended in the future and the Redmond group points out that dealers are also able to market spare parts.

For this approach to do-it-yourself repair of out-of-warranty Microsoft Surface devicesthe target audience is that of individuals with technical knowledge and skills in “ complex electronic repairs. ”

On the sidelines of the partnership with iFixit

Maintenance guides are available (in French) and tools for carrying out repairs are sold separately, as part of a partnership with the specialist iFixit which had already been in force since the end of 2021.

” When purchasing a replacement component, you will receive the correct part and collateral components (such as screws, if applicable). Tools needed for repair are sold separately by iFixit. It is essential to follow the instructions of the guide “, says Microsoft.

Spare parts offered vary depending on Surface device type. Some are better off than others, which is closely linked to the repairability efforts made by Microsoft over the evolution of its Surface range (and reviews).
