So yes, this announcement took a bit of a hit. For good reason, after the Rise opus on Nintendo Switch, fans did not think that the next title in the series would be a mobile game. Remember, there had already been one, Monster Hunter Explore. However, despite its success, its servers were unfortunately shut down in 2020.
The license in danger?
In this case, why bring out a Monster Hunter on such a platform? The reason is simple, Capcom signed a partnership with one of Tencent’s subsidiaries, TiMi. The latter has a specialization: mobile games. Besides, you probably know her better for Call of Duty: Mobile which has been downloaded more than 650 million times. But the studio created in 2008 also developed Pokémon Unite, released last year. Anyway, you get the idea, we are dealing with a veteran in this area. However, the community is concerned about the gameplay. How much will it be transformed to fit our phones? We have the beginning of an answer.
According to Capcom and TiMi, there is no reason to worry. If the objective is to offer an exotic experience for regulars of the franchise thanks to mobile, the heart of the gameplay will not be turned upside down:
The game in development will replicate the hunting techniques that define the Monster Hunter series and provide players with a new gameplay experience unique to the mobile platform.
It only remains to wait for a first trailer to get an idea of the result. However, even if some will be reluctant to get started, the app should be a hit. In effect, we must not forget that Monster Hunter is currently the second best-selling Capcom licensejust behind Resident Evil.
As a reminder, the latest game in the series, Monster Hunter Rise, is available on PC and Nintendo Switch. This summer, he was entitled to a DLC, Sunbreak, which was a hit.
