Thanks to excellent Switch sales and encouraging prospects, Nintendo’s stock has soared in recent months to reach 42,000 yen at the end of the year, or about $370. This is the highest since the end of 2008 when the action began to decline with the first signs of the Wii phenomenon running out of steam.

The rest is known: the failure of the Wii U and the series of poor quarterly results caused the share price to plunge to around 8,000 yen, before it rose again thanks to the success of Pokémon Go first, then with the almost unexpected success of the Switch. At the beginning of 2017, the company’s share was listed at 24,000 yen, which means that in the space of a year its price has almost doubled.

Despite these encouraging signs, we are still far from the absolute record of November 2, 2007 when the action reached 70,500 yen on the Tokyo stock exchange, and it would take a fairly exceptional alignment of the stars to repeat this feat.
