The Chicago Blackhawks have no plans to name a captain for the 2023-24 season, much to the dismay of potential candidates like Seth Jones.
The experienced defenseman was trying to convince the organization to make him the next official locker room leader — as he said in an interview with NHL.com — but the Hawks would ultimately choose to be patient, NBC reported Tuesday.

General manager Kyle Davidson said the team would rely on a committee of assistants.

The Manitoban was captain of Chicago until 2023, but the Hawks did not wish to continue their collaboration with the center player. Toews also announced he was taking a break from professional hockey in August.
Coming back to Jones, he was one of Toews’ three assistants last season, alongside Connor Murphy and Patrick Kane. The latter left the Blackhawks at the trade deadline in February.
