In Pokémon GO’s Ultra League, you must select a Pokémon to insert into three different positions. Lead, Switch and Closer. The leader is aptly named because they are the first to come out in a battle. The Switch is the Pokémon that activates after the Lead fades and a Closer is the last after the Lead. You want to make sure that each location has a varied type and strategy for battles. Having a team of all Waters is the last thing you want to do! Since this is the Ultra League, you can use the XL and Shadow versions of the Pokemon, they are generally more battle friendly than their normal versions.

The Pokemon we’ve listed are generally considered the best of the best in each of their roles, some of them even show up twice! Now, not every possible Pokémon that could be considered good in Ultra League. If we had to list all the Pokemon available, we’d be here all day! But the ones we have above will be a great starting point for anyone looking to try out competitive Ultra League and maybe even try out Ultra League Premiere!
