PS4 and Xbox One are no different from a PC

Alex Preston’s statement, lead developer on Hyper Light Drifter, don’t take any detours. His game coming out on new generation platforms, he shares his development experience:

“We feel like it’s easy to develop for both PS4 and Xbox One, I mean, consoles are practically PCs these days, their architecture is mostly like that, it’s not really different from a PC that you would buy on Newegg or elsewhere”

he says while ruling out any problem with the eSRAM.

“Both are powerful machines and we don’t even need our game to use all that power, we just need room to do things, and we have a lot of stuff on screen, that’s why that we do not develop on 3DS for example, because it is an old and inefficient machine. But the PS4 and Xbox One are just good PCs so it’s not complicated. We use the same tools, Game Maker, and we are able to export everything with ease to each platform. It’s not at all like with the Xbox 360 and the PS3, or even with the first Xbox and the PS2, where it was really complicated because each machine was unique. For those, it’s easier to run something there. »
