Since the beginning of the violence, the mayors find themselves on the front line. Everywhere in France, elected officials are trying to reassure the population. On July 3 at noon, in front of all the town halls of France, elected officials and citizens are called to gather.

In Sannois (Val-d’Oise), the town hall is condemned. Everything is done to make the building impenetrable. The town hall has been under heavy protection since its attack by rioters on the night of Thursday, June 29. The mayor intervened against the attackers. Since then, every evening, Bernard Jamet, mayor (DVD) of Sannois, finds his 25 municipal councilors. All take turns to monitor the town hall and ensure a permanent presence. “It’s taking public space, not leaving public space to those who are rioters”believes Bernard Jamet.

A charred social center

All night, the building remains lit and the rounds follow one another. The roof of the town hall acts as a watchtower. No incident was recorded last night. But for several days, everywhere in France, public buildings have been the target of rioters. In a town near Lille (North), the municipal cinema went up in smoke in a few seconds. In Pithiviers (Loiret), molotov ___tails were thrown inside the social center. Everything is charred, the staff is collapsed.
