The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 promises an unprecedented user experience thanks to its interactive cover screen.
The biggest upgrade of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 over its predecessor is the bigger cover screen. Going from the small size of 1.9 inches (512 x 260 pixels) to 3.4 inches (720 x 748 pixels). This will allow Samsung to run apps on the cover screen, not just basic widgets.

The company is said to have worked with Google to include apps like Google Maps. At this time, it’s unclear to what extent Maps functionality will be available when the phone is shut down. It could be the full app (like on the Moto Razr 40 Ultra) or a simplified version.
The Maps UI was problematic on the Razr because it doesn’t bypass the camera punch holes. This will also be an issue for Samsung’s upcoming foldable and its bent form cover display.
Either way, other Google apps could be accessed from the external display, including Messages and YouTube. Of course, Samsung will add as many One UI apps to this screen as it makes sense.
It probably won’t be as functional as the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but the new 3.4-inch panel means you’ll have to open the phone less often.
