To avoid paying Apple a cut of its revenue, Spotify removed in-app purchases from the Spotify app on iOS several years ago.
Yesterday it was reported that Spotify was working to change this decision, but today the company confirmed that it has no plans to do so and support for in-app purchases will not return.
The information that emerged Thursday was based on lines of code found in the Spotify app that mentioned in-app purchases. However, in a statement to The Verge, the company denied that this implementation was on its roadmap.
“We currently have no plans to enable IAP (in-app payments),” said Farshad Shadlu, global head of corporate and political communications at Spotify.
Streaming service Spotify removed the ability to subscribe through Apple’s in-app purchase system back in 2016. This summer, the company even dropped old subscribers who were still tied to App Store billing.
