Born in 1973 and residing in the city of Genitchesk, the suspect allegedly “in 2014”, according to the FSB, “voluntarily joined and took an active part in the activities of the Noman Chelebidzhikhan battalion of the Crimean Tatars”. Organization “whose objectives, in addition to the implementation of the food, energy and water blockade of Crimea from the Ukrainian border, are to violate the integrity of the Russian Federation, as well as to fight, including armed, for the return of the peninsula “in Ukraine,” the statement said.

The accused would have in particular “selected and recruited” the members of his cell as well as and “provided free material and financial resources to equip his base” of Kherson “used to blockade the peninsula”, adds the document. This stipulates that anyone accused of participating in armed training not authorized by federal law (Article 208.2 of the Russian Criminal Code) faces up to 15 years’ imprisonment.
