The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO: Abby would have been…

According to known leaks, Kaitlyn Dever has landed the role of Abby for The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO.

The question of who will play Abby in HBO’s The Last of Us has been keeping fans up at night for months. Abby has been fancast countless times, but according to some leaks, the decision has been made: Kaitlyn Dever would take on the role of Abby.

The known fugitive Daniel Richtman, @DanielRPK on Twitter/X, claimed that Kaitlyn Dever was taking on the role of Abby and was supported by her colleague Jeff Sneider. Getting the role makes sense on more levels than people give it credit for, but let’s start at the top.

Was Kaitlyn Dever cast as Abby in The Last of Us?

Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have both refrained in the past from sharing too much when it comes to The Last of Us, and there’s no official statement if Kaitlyn Dever has been cast as Abby so far.

At this point, Dever as Abby is nothing more than a rumor – it still makes sense, contrary to popular belief. Online, people are mostly demanding that she “bulk up better” to fit Abby’s physique from the game (while other people have been complaining about exactly this for years at this point, crying over the impossibility of keeping this type of muscle in place). the apocalypse).

Others complain that she looks more like Ellie than Abby, which is apparently reason enough to already be angry at the casting choice. This is basically the same treatment Bella Ramsay received, so it’s likely that The Last of Us community will have a hard time trusting the showrunners or reconsidering their opinions.

Whoever takes on this role will likely face difficult times. At least that’s what Laura Bailey (who played Abby in the game) had to endure after you know what happened – literal death threats against an actress, what’s wrong with these people? By now, The Last of Us Part II is a pretty controversial topic, and there’s a good chance that live-action Abby will have to take a few hits as well.

Why Dever might be the right choice for Abby

Not only did Dever audition for Ellie (and got pretty far into the process before Ramsay booked the role) and obviously knows The Last of Us, but she’s previously worked with Naughty Dog. Although it was only a small role, Dever played Cassie in the epilogue of Uncharted 4, so she has ties to Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog.

Other than that, show-Abby probably won’t be the mirror image of game-Abby anyway. Just like Ellie made some minor changes to her character, Abby will also be tweaked. Making her a little softer than in the game (where her physique was also an important gameplay element – a factor that HBO can completely overlook) might just make audiences more inclined to give her a chance and not view her as the evil. .

Still, from a practical standpoint, Dever could also be the right choice: she’s just a bit taller than Ramsay, which could make filming a lot easier and make Ellie and Abby look more like who they are : two pieces of the same medal. .
