Nintendo recently released a Q&A transcript from its recent shareholder meeting, revealing new information about Nintendo Accounts and the upcoming Nintendo console. According to company president Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo Accounts from Nintendo Switch will be used on the next Nintendo console to facilitate a “smooth transition”.
Nintendo Switch has entered its seventh year in the gaming market, and more than 290 million Nintendo Accounts have been created across mobile and console. Furukawa believes keeping the same system of Nintendo Accounts from Switch will allow players to seamlessly transition to the next console each time it arrives. Nintendo’s next-gen console will likely be a more common topic of discussion within a year or two. Furukawa didn’t give any further details on the company’s next console, but the return of the Nintendo Account system is a promising sign, to say the least.
Nintendo Switch sales momentum continues
In the United States, Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console of May 2023, beating the PlayStation 5 in unit and dollar sales. Spending on Nintendo Switch consoles and games has also hit one of its peaks in the past three years due to the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Additionally, Nintendo claimed the top spot in accessory unit sales with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Series 1 Amiibo Character Pack.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom instantly became the second best-selling game of 2023 in the US, continuing the momentum of the Switch into its seventh year. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom managed to achieve this status with only physical copies being accounted for. Additionally, the highly anticipated sequel was the best-selling game of May 2023. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also reappeared in the list of the top 20 best-selling games in May 2023.
Lately, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
