A unique outfit for teenagers at school is an idea put forward by President Emmanuel Macron. The method has already been used, particularly in overseas territories.

The school uniform is a subject that has been debated for a long time in Provins (Seine-et-Marne). In the spring of 2018, parents had voted overwhelmingly for the wearing of a single piece of clothing for pupils in primary schools in the public sector. It was a first in France. “In first grade, they start to look at each other in relation to the clothes”, said a mother. The uniform then returned in class, but since it was not compulsory, many gave it up after a few months.

A uniform imposed in the West Indies

You don’t have to think about what to wear. Once we’ve washed the lot, we know that every day is that”, said a mother. One of the objectives is to erase social differences. “100 euros for the whole year is good, it’s much more advantageous”explains a local.
